When you say entrees, do you mean prepared foods?  Or are you going to cook them  from scratch?

My list always includes 3 vegetables per day. either raw to to be cooked.  I like to try for green vegetables and vegetables of different colors, for variety
2 fruits per day
2 meat, fish, egg or beans per day
2 servings of dairy products per day (yogurt, cottage cheese, milk, etc)

I make a large container of iced, unsweetened, decaf tea to drink when it's hot instead of coffee or hot tea, so that's always in there.

For cooking, I always have celery, onions and carrots, fresh parsley and any other fresh herb that's available. Right now I have some hot peppers.

Extras include avocados, lemons, limes.

I keep my nuts, seeds and grains in the refrigerator - almonds, walnuts, pepitas, sunflower seeds, bulghur wheat, quinoa, brown rice, and whatever caught my eye at the store.

I don't keep my olive oil in the refrigerator though, because it tends to solidify.  It's just about the only oil I use.

Thanks! BIg help. Also, I did mean prepared meals. When I  said entees. Aswell, as scratch if you have some recipies available, that'd be wonderful aswell! Because, when I have the time, i love to cook a meal. So both as an answer will do. thanks again.

Walk around the grocery store - go in a U shape - if you stay out of the middle aisles you will have the fresh good stuff.  Its when you go down the cookie/cracker/frozen food aisles you get stuck.

Start in Veggies/Fruit - move into Dairy - then into Protein and breads.

And get a few essentials out of the middle aisles.

I had a feeling that's what you meant.  I don't eat frozen entrees because of the expense and the high sodium content.  Also, they are never enough to eat.  Instead, I freeze portions of cooked foods to be reheated.  Things that work especially well are chili, soups, stews (but not potatoes - they go funny when frozen).

My son in law does a pureed sweet potato that is really good - he steams the sweet potatoes (peeled) then mashes them with cinnamon and a dab of butter (about 1/2 tsp a 1/2 cup serving).  That dish freezes really well, but it's just as easy to microwave a sweet potato.

I am going to the store later this afternoon. Here is my list if it helps. I am a broke college student who is a vegetarian lol. So if you think my list is not entirely something you'd go off of, that is probably why haha

  • Eggs
  • Nickles light wheat bread
  • fat free cream cheese
  • fat free shredded mozzarella
  • baby carrots
  • a bag of frozen broccoli
  • a bag of frozen mixed veggies
  • jar of pizza sauce
  • dannon light and fit yogurts
  • sweet potatoes
  • instant mashed potatoes
  • mini cheese potato porogies
  • vegan boca burgers
  • tomato basil boca burgers
  • refried beans
  • low cal tortillas
  • pretzels
  • diet pop of some kind

Hope that helped!

Things I always have on hand:

  • cottage cheese
  • eggs (I boil 2/3 on the weekend, and save the rest for Saturday breakfast and anything else I might need fresh for)
  • baby carrots
  • skim milk
  • misc. fresh veggies and fruit - usually whatever's on sale, especially the fruit.  If you buy too much, and it starts to go bad, slice it up and stick it in the freezer.  The veggies can go in a soup/stew, and the fruits can go in a smoothie.
  • string cheese and mozzarella cheese brick - the string cheese is for the kids - they won't eat the cheaper brick cheese.
  • I like to cook several chicken breasts over the weekend and then I can use them however I want throughout the week.  Cut it up and put it in noodles or on a salad, or warm it up with some barbecue sauce.
  • Right now, I can't live without whole wheat bagels with neufchatel cream cheese.
  • homemade granola to put on top of bran flake cereal.

I  use a lot of canned products as well, so my pantry is full.  I always try to buy the low sodium/no sugar added options.

I'm not too good at planning out the week yet.  But this is my start. Wink
