Every time I get hungry and I see a bag of cookies lying around on the counter, I try to go and eat some fruit, or have another healthy option. However, I still don't feel satisfied, and I sometimes even end up eating that bag of cookies anyways. I feel like I took in more calories that I could have, because I knew that I would have been perfectly full without all of that healthy food too. How do I feel satisfied with just healthy food?
Stop leaving cookies lying around on the counter. I know personally if I can see it and I know it's there, I can't be satisfied until I have it. The best way to avoid tempation is to remove it. At the very least stuff them in the high, most unaccessable counter you can. Out of sight out of mind.
Why not have both? Have one cookie, and a little bit of fruit together. That way you can moderate the portion of cookies you have, and still have a little healthy somethin' on the side to keep you full.
And putting away the cookies also helps. :P But think about it: do you plan on avoiding cookies for the rest of your life? If you were maintaining your ideal weight, I bet you'd allow yourself a cookie. Just.. not the whole bag. Moderation for the win!
As for making healthy foods more satisfying.. Try new things and adding food groups. Fruit and nuts go great, cheese and veggies, grains and pretty much anything. Think about what'll fuel your body and make you feel full.. while still be pretty satisfying. Protein, fats, and carbs all balanced out will make you feel very satisfied after a snack. 'Specially when you have extra protein and fiber!
wuv2,
Try adding some whole grains to your fruit. This may help you feel full faster. How often has this craving happened lately?

I have found that the healthier I eat, the less I want the junk. Time helps too. The first week of my healthy habits, is was hard to say no to treats like that. By week 4, it was pretty easy. I also eat a lot of whole grains, and I find that they seriously help with sugar cravings.
for me as soon as i went off wheat and dairy, and limited my sugar and caffiene ALL of my cravings dissappeared. its really not all that hard to stop these foods and its amazing not having to deal with cravings! now i notice when i eat wheat I break out, and when i eat a ton of sugar or caffiene (I still have these in moderation) my cravings come back? so maybe your allergic to something youve been eating and that makes your body crave things?
Why do you have cookies? Get rid of them.
As far as feeling "satisfied" with healthy food, that is entirely a function of your brain. Look at it this way: for one of those 100 calorie, one ounce "snack packs" that only gives you a sugar rush and leaves you even hungrier in an hour, you could instead have nearly a full pound of fresh strawberries. Strawberries! A pound! Do you not think a POUND of food will fill you up? You need to recognize that the lack of "satisfaction" is in your mind, and you need to look at healthy food as superior, as better-tasting, and recognize that it will help you accomplish your long-term goals.

haha i love that
your argument makes a lot of sense, though, i have the same problem with cravings, and it sucks so much, especially when there's always tons of junk food lying around the house...
