how to stop eating biscuits in the evening
Hi all,
i'm wondering does anyone have any good tips to stop eating biscuits in the evening. my diet during te day is good (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and i also have healthy snacks during the day if i need them. but when i have my cup of tea after dinner i end up eating 3-4 biscuits of more if i can't stop myself.
i really want to stop doing this as it is ruining the good work that i am doing during the day(eating good) and any exercise i do.
thanks.

If you can't muster the self-control to stop eating them, don't buy them at all. What's not there can't be eaten. Or maybe buy some sort that comes in individual packages like you might get in a cafe. One cookie per package.
how to stop eating biscuits in the evening?
Don't buy biscuits!!
Good advice Cherry.
Dont buy them, dont make them...dont have them around with easy access. I went through a similar thing with peanut butter. Just a spoonful here and there and then the 1/2 jar gone! As a result, I dont buy peanut butter any more...until I can learn to control the flow.
you didnt mention if you are the one responsible for buying groceries for the household.
if not, maybe dont drink the tea? you might not eat them if you are not drinking tea.
this is a perfect example of a lifestyle change! one of those things that if you can cut out the habit you will save yourself from gaining 20 lbs a year for life.
its all about lifestyle change...not dieting per se. dont cut biscuits out of your life entiirely, just get rid of the habitual behavoir.
good luck with that.
just stop eating.
I dont see why its so hard.
If it is just dont buy them. When i was eating pizza all day long its not that i couldnt stop its that i didnt care.
Ive been on my weight lost program since febuary and ive not gained one time.I lost 67 pound now and it is REALY easy now just think of your health.
Try having your cup of tea with dinner, then brush your teeth immediately after. Snacks don't taste as good when you have that minty aftertaste in your mouth.
Either don't eat/buy them, or if you MUST have them then try to work your calorie intake for the rest of the day with that in mind.
If i come in under my daily calorie target I like to treat myself with Social Tea 'biscuits' in the evening with a cup of milk... more of a cookie if you ask me but the lines between cookie/biscuit/cracker are kinda fuzzy.
Most of these things are down to habit. You can stop yourself, it will just take some time to break the habit. It will be easier over time. If it helps don't buy the biscuits in the first place. If it helps then don't have tea to break the association between the tea and biscuits.
I did this sort of thing when I gave up smoking. I used to drink a lot of coffee throughout the day and it would normally mean I would have a cigarette with it. So when I gave up smoking, I stopped having coffee for a little while. I knew that if I had it then I might crave a cigarette.
I understand the biscuit thing, my wife and I have the same issue. It has become such an ingrained habit to have something with a cup of tea. Why not explore other low calorie alternatives with your tea. I have tried low calorie bars (such as Alpen bars we get here in the UK). That seems to help minimise the effects of the biscuits.
Ultimately its about will power, you have to try and resist it as much as possible. When you do cave, try just having one biscuit and then put the rest away. Over time you will be able to gain more control. It's like any thing else, it gets better with practice.
I'm amazed that after having changed my lifestyle I am able to resist a lot of the foods that I used to snack on. When you count calories it helps to see the effect of these things. Depending on the bisuits you are having, the amount of calories can vary. Some of my favourites are around 70 calories each! Before I couldn't just have a biscuit, I was likely to have half the packet. Thats why I explored all these other low calorie sweet snacks which would satisfy the occasional chocolate craving and actually help me fill satisfied (Sugary products doesn't seem to satisfy me for long).
So I sometimes have things like this. It's only 125 calories and doesn't impact too much on my daily intake.
hi
i agree with everyone above that it's a habit, but i also feel ur pain at trying to get out of it. i've tried the eating something healthier but it's not quite the same - so my new outlook - eat half. so if u usually have two biscuits, only have the one... it's a step in the right direction... then in time u can get down to half a biscuit or only one every other day. i'm as far down this path as i buy these little oat and raisin based biscuits - about an inch across and have one of these with my tea after my dinner - they are about 45 cals each, easily fitted into my cal intake for the day - kinda a combination of all the suggestions above.
good luck!
i stopped late night snacking by having my dinner later, i usually have a pwo snack after i come home from the gym & then i eat dinner. by then im too full and im getting sleepy.
the whole 'just stop' doesn't quite work like that, especially if its a habit. and you say that you are good during the day, but maybe you might not also be eating enough.
or maybe you don't feel fully relaxed after your day and you turn to biscuits. when you want something emotionally there's no reasoning with yourself unless you know what you need to do for yourself. like maybe taking a nice relaxing hot bath to soak away all the tension from the day. or maybe some light yoga. that's just from my personal experience but you have to figure it out for yourself.
I wouldn't beat myself up about three or four biscuits. Going through a packet is probably not a great idea, but a few biscuits can't hurt too much. I think if you start telling yourself not to buy them or that you can't have them you will have a big biscuit shape thought in your head. And that will build up to a biscuit feeding frenzy.
How about have them as long as you are hungry? If you are eating them when you aren't hungry ask yourself why you are eating them. I have been dieting for years, and spending all that time suppressing my hunger and then binging has led to a situation where I need to re-educate myself about what hunger feels like. Honestly. Just going to the fridge automatically and stopping and asking myself "Am I hungry?" or do I just want some endorphins - turns out I am hardly ever hungry. My vice is Muller Yoghurt Banana Chocolate Bits thing, and I have one in the evening and enjoy it.
The real problem is when you eat in front of the TV or eat at the PC without even taking the time to enjoy what you are eating. Dieters think of the food they can't have all day long except when they are eating - then they go into a trance for the endorphin rush. Well I did anyway.
Also make sure that you enjoy them and don't just wolf them down. Focus on the texture and flavour and eat slowly. If you are getting regular exercise you can treat yourself without obsessing about it. We all deserve a little summfink after a hard day.
You may find that relaxing about it instead of stressing about it means that you don't even want them. I used to go through biscuits like mad, but since I started saying to myself that I can have whatever I want as long as I am genuinely hungry they don't even occur to me.
Just my two cents.
after my last meal of the day i always go take a hot shower and brush my teeth, making sure they're nice a purty. the combination of this kills most any apetite for the rest of the night. dont have the tea, or take the tea cup and go sip it outside so if you really want those biscuits you have to go walk over and get them, give you extra time to rethink it.
I don't know if this would work for you or not, but why not just work 2 biscuits into your daily calories? Then when you have them, you don't feel guilty and have 2 more cuz you were already "bad" for the day...
I have a 1/2 cup of the best frozen yogurt every day, and I don't feel guilty, or that I've done something wrong, because by 7 pm at night I have 100 cals waiting for me to enjoy... And do I ever?! I savour every last bite after my day of exercising and healthy eating.
Just a couple cents worth ![]()
