When do you stop eating/when do you sleep?
Is there a recommended amount of hours of when you should stop eating based on when you go to sleep? I hear 8 pm as a very common food cuttoff time, but I am assuming that is for people that go to sleep at reasonable hours.
When do you all have your last food and when do you go to sleep?
There's no scientific proof that eating just before going to sleep is harmful. I think it all depends on your body. If you're hungry, eat, if you're not, don't. If you don't sleep good when you eat just before going to bed, then eat earlier.
well it is recomended to stop eating 3 to 4 hours before sleep, and i totally agree with that, you will feel better in the morning.. but for sleeping, i dont think it has an hour, but i think the advice is to not sleep too much!
I personally find that I don't sleep well and tend to have nightmares when I eat late, but sometimes I'm starving. I've found that milk, or a cup of tomato or carrot soup and a small piece of toast usually satisfy me and don't cause the associated problems.
This question seems to come up daily. It's just personal preference. I eat RIGHT before my head hits the pillow ... well, I do brush first! I go to bed at 6:30 AM, so I eat my last snack at 6:15 AM.
this is going to sound goofy... but this may help?? My mom use to tell me when I was a little girl that if I ate before I slept that my stomach would grow bigger... well I guess that was true for me... I did use to eat before I went to bed j/k. But it seems to me eatting before you go to sleep can cause indigestion and also it won't metabolize as fast. I agree with nebita about not eating 3-4 hours before sleep.
Three hours seems to be the general rule, but I'm not "normal." I have a very hard time sleeping, and if I'm even the slightest bit hungry, I won't sleep. So, I usually have my last meal about 4 or 5 hours before bed and then have a snack about 30 minutes before I am asleep.
I find, though, that protein is the best kind of food for me to eat at night as my bedtime snack. I usually have a plain, whole milk yogurt. It's important to ME that I not eat a lot, not eat greasy meats, no fried foods, and no high sugar things. I find that if I eat a lot close to bed (a meal, instead of a snack) I have a "hangover" feeling in the morning and I skip breakfast and it sets off a whole host of bad eating for the next day.
i'm a chronic insomniac, and i sleep much better if i stop eating three hours before i go to bed AND eat breakfast soon after waking up. i think it's about synchronizing your metabolism with your sleep cycle; food is fuel, and it signals your body to pick up the pace rather than slow down for the night.
I've heard "No eating after 2 hours before bed." My mom has often scolded me for eating around 10 PM but I'm usually up until midnight or 1 AM so between dinner at 6 and bed at midnight I get hungry. I think there's not really good proof that weight loss wise it matters what time you cut off eating but just mainly the total calories you consume. If you eat enough food during the day then sit around late at night eating ice cream and potato chips of course you'll have weight problems.
I eat right before bed (usually fat-free cottage cheese which is a slow digesting protein), it doesn't make sense to me to eat every 3-4 hours during the day and then extend the amount of time you fast for during the night (if you sleep for 8 hours why extend that "fast" for another 3 by not eating before bed?)
I eat my last meal at 9:59.. and go to sleep at 10
haha, okay, so not literally.. but I'm usually eating right up until bedtime. The only problem I see with eating late is you might have trouble falling asleep with a fully tummy, or y'know, indigestion, heartburn, etc. I think the real issue is that people tend to overeat later on in the day, or have already eaten all their calories by dinner time and don't have any more to spare.. y'know.
Either way, I try not to eat too many carbs later in the day, only because I find it's harder for me to get to sleep after having had, say, a scoop of ice cream.
I don't pay any attention to 'when' I eat, only what/total calories. Most days we don't eat dinner until 8:30 or 9 pm and have no problems. I don't think I'd sleep well if I ate something really spicy or heavy, though (the indigestion would keep me up). But my regular food (lean meat, veggies, fruits, snacks) don't give me any trouble. I found I started sleeping better when I cut out the processed foods (white flour) and sugar and added some workouts to my schedule (in the am - if I workout too late I can't sleep).
I stop eating at 6 or 7 pm, when we have dinner with the family. On the odd occasion when I feel hungry after that, I might eat a carrot or a pinch of all-bran cereal, but dinner is pretty much it - and I go to bed after 2 am. I do have tea and water, but basically don't eat, and now that I'm used to it, don't mind at all...
