I have been working out hardcore these past few days. I am super proud of myself and I love everything I have been doing (jump rope, giant fitness ball and pilaties). The problem is i am in soooo much pain. I am literally wobbeling around. I am streaching and everything i just think my body is not used to this kinda of physical activity. When will working out stop hurting!

If you are in extreme pain you need to take it easy for a day or 2 and maybe take your workouts down a notch and build up slowly.  Doing too much too soon can cause burnout and injury.  Its best to go by the "slow and steady wins the race" philosophy.

As far as when does it stop hurtying -- I don't know if it ever does - I have been working out for several years now and try to "feel the burn" and push myself a little harder each day - but when I get too sore I'll take it back down and also rest until its better.

Also read the stickied thread on injury prevention principles at the to of this forum -- great info in there.

I had a very similar experience when I started stepping up my workouts and not varying my exercises. Is is possible that you are doing repetitive exercises and not giving yourself a day in between to heal?

I found this site to be very helpful for designing a split workout (http://www.exrx.net/Beginning.html). Following a split-workout made this problem go away for me and I now work out 6 days a week.

You should make sure you're drinking a lot of water and eating a lot of protein. It helps heal the muscles after a workout.
hey everyone thanks for all the help. I have been eating TONS of protien because i am on phase one of southbeach so thats pretty much all i eat =/

I'm not giving myself a day break in between workouts. I am trying to work out 4-5 times a week.

whats so weird is i feel much better after working out and then the next day i hurt again. In any case i welcome the pain and just hope these means i am just working out really well!

Where is the pain, specifically?

When I first started working out, my feet would kill me.  It was so bad that I had to call into work once due to the fact that I couldn't walk around without leaning on something, so I can relate to 'wobbling' around.

If it's your feet, I would recommend going out and purchasing a pair of proper shoes.  It worked wonders for me.

It would also help if you ate enough potassium. Eat a banana after a workout, drink a ton of water and make sure you are getting enough sleep. If your muscles hurt getting them warm again (blood flowing) will take away the pain. You can take a walk, sit in a hot tub or take a hot shower. It really works!

woah slow down with your workout.  if you sustain injuries it's gonna get worse over time.  take it easy!

i am actually having the same problem.  on wednesday i did a workout video at home, there was a mix of cardio sets and strength training.  there were alot of squats, which i did in front of the couch to make sure i was doing it correctly and even today my inner thighs hurt like crazy.. like it hurts when i walk.. i dont know what to do.. last night i took a hot bath thinking that that will help but nothing.. eating lots of protein too

If you do a workout and it hurts for three days, don't try to do that workout again until it doesn't hurt any more! There's no point in killing yourself or risking a real injury.
