ive been doing really well with healthy eating and am used to consuming about 900 - 1200 cals a day which is healthy for the amount of energy im expending. but tonight i ate soooooooooooooo much: bagels, dips, bread, ice cream.... the cravings always come at night and tonight i just couldn't control myself.

how can i stop myself binging at night????
im used 2 about a 1000 cals a day, today i had 2000 thanks to nighttime binge. will i put on weight?

You can't live on 900-1200 calories for prolonged periods of time. You will be hungry and that will cause binging. My advice is to feed yourself more food at the begining of the day. Eat more carbs early and in the evening eat more proteins. Allow yourself a snack at night. Drink caffeine free teas, waters, etc and if you like take a fiber tablet to help with a fuller feeling. But I really want to stress that your body is probably starving for more food and you should listen to it.
liv000...
Define night time...  define binges...
I have the SAME problem and have found a way to minimize mine.  When do you normally start to crave?  When do you normally go to bed?  What are you normally doing duing the time of craving to the time you hit the hay?  What do you normally eat to satiate your craving?

hmm well i go for my run at about 7 coz the sun's down and it's not as hot. it's holidays right now (but not for long) so i'm in bed about 1130 - 12 - 1230. depends. ill have dinner after my run so it's about 8 till when i sleep. i'd usually be on the computer in my room upstairs or watching tv. i think that's the problem - if i'm upstairs on the computer i won't feel the need to walk to the kitchen coz my bed's right there to sleep in after i'm done on comp. but when i watch tv the kitchen is only a few steps away and if my parents are in bed early.....well they can't stop what i eat haha. ice cream...bread...chocolate biscuits....whatevers around really i'll eat.
I think one of the main reasons you are binging at night is because of the too low calorie intake during the day.  You need to eat more.  Also eating sweets will casue you to crave more.  I too suffer from binging when I am watching tv.  Last week I went to walmart and bought some cheap $2 yarn and a "teach yourself crochet" book and hook and stuff and for about 15$ total have started crocheting while watching tv and my night time binges have pretty much stopped.  I still have a late snack - but have switched from eating for 2 hours straight even when I'm not hungry to just letting myself have some honey nut cheerios dry or some pecans - healthy snacks.
John Berardi, one of the people in the business I trust, once said "if it's in your house you will eventually eat it."  So...

Step 1: Throw bad food away
also
Step 2: Limit TV to 2 hours per evening MAX.
Step 3: AND the following food is yummy and will fill you up and you CANNOT gain weight from a 1/2 of a kilogram bag eaten every night.

Frozen Mixed Fruit from M&M Meats
Frozen Mixed Berries from M&M Meats

You're looking at about 350 calories for 1/2 to 3/4s of a bag!  It's sweet, good for you... mostly water.  Use it as a binge food.

Legaleli is sooo right...get the stuff outta your house. I used to think that I could put chocolate cookies and ice cream in the house and nibble at it from time to time, but I noticed that those nibbles because pig-outs! Now I keep caramel rice cakes and fat free Fig Newtons in the cupboard...sweet, satisfying and yet not the sort of thing that I pig out on. Also, I always have a fresh pineapple in the house...nothing better than fresh pineapple and very filling. 2-3 wedges and I'm one happy full person.

I also have a rule in my house (the dogs ignore it)...no going in the kitchen for food after 8pm, no matter what. Glass o' water, fine. Food, no way. Dogs have not figured this one out since their cookie jar is also in the kitchen.
I also keep caramel rice cakes for these cravings, and I also eat a lot of fruits to satisfy... But I agree with the others that you are not consuming enough calories and that may be part of the cause...

Get rid of the crappy food and replace it with some healthy alternatives!

Eat more protein during the day

Reach for an apple for a sugar fix

DONT say "oh, ill just have one..."---you won't ;)

Green tea often works (at least for me) to supress hunger...plus, its really good once you adjust to the taste

and, my favorite tip:

If you think you're gonna binge, go outside and take a night walk. It's refreshing, fun, and will get your mind off of the cravings :)
