the story of my life: gain weight, lose weight. gain weight, lose weight. so on and so forth. i like roller coasters as much as the next gal, millenium force @ cedar point is my personal favorite, but when it comes to my weight, i'm sick of it.
so i'm trying this new diet: weigh loss for idiots. i'm on day 7 & have lost 9 pounds (water-weight i'm sure, but i'm happy none-the-less). i'm starting out using WL4I, but won't be doing it for the long run. for me, it's a catalyst, a jump-start.
i do best with support. i've been stress eating ALL summer - bad girl, bad. so i thought i'd put this out for anyone interested in joining me on this journey. are you on a roller coaster too?

WELCOME msgranny, kathethegreat & lyssalou76!
lyssalou76: frame trick~ wrap the fingers of your right hand around your left wrist, attempting to touch your middle finger to your thumb. if they don't touch = large, if they touch = medium, if the overlap = small.
do you guys have any good tricks or tips you'd like to share?

lyssalou - congrats on your weight loss so far (80 pounds)! what a GREAT accomplishment. keep it up!
TIP OF THE WEEK: buy a large water bottle that holds at least 64 oz. this is an easy way to keep track of whether you're getting enough water in.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK: what is your favorite healthy snack? please give one sweet example & one salty example.
do you have a good tip to share? do you have any questions to ask the group?
happy day. :)

Favorite healthy snacks: Sugar free fudge bars (40 calories), and almounds (calories range).
TIP: Plan your meals ahead of time (the day before most likely) so that you know exactly what you're going to eat. It's easier to stay on track that way.

Oh and my fav snacks :)
Sweet:
Luna Bars - I am soooo seriously addicted to these. They are lunacrack as far as Im concerned! At 180 cals they are closer to a meal replacement than a 'snack'. But I dont like any 'bars' that arent just candy bars, yet Luna Bars taste soooo yummy to me, are 70% organic, low glycemin, 10g protein, tons of B vitamins, etc! Fav flavs are Nutz over Chocolate, CookiesnCream, Chocolate Pecan Pie and Peanutbutter Cookie.
Salty: hmm, I no healthy suggestions...only horrible ones...so Ill keep those to myself, hehe.

Oh, and I just had my favorite healthy snack - yoplait yogurt with 1/2 honey & oat granola bar crushed inside of it. YUM! It really squelches the craving for sweet and crunchy!!

Looks like I'll be first (one of the joys of being currently unemployed??)
Anyway. Dropped 4 lb, down to 204, end of first week so I know it's water, but a loss is a loss! on a piddly 56lb to go :-D. I did stick to my one day at a time and managed 5 solid days under 1300 (no, I'm not "moving" right now -- different story)
Talkdoc, my WW counselor used to tell me that a failure to plan was a plan for failure, try to work around your nights out and social gatherings. If you know about them in advance, try to cut the calories BEFORE the evening starts which will leave you more for the fun. As far as the lost control, I have that problem --sometimes something as silly as a rubberband on the wrist that you snap when you eat/drink something, can bring your focus back to where you need it to be.
Now, if I could only follow my own advice :-}

Congrats coack_K on the 4 lbs loss!!!
Ok....so i had a horrible week last week. I actually gained a couple pounds and of course felt so horrible but i'm not going to let it get me down. I'll just have to work harder. So this morning i actually got up and exercised before work plus i usually go for at least a 2 mile walk at night. If i cant do that tonight (too much rain...it wont stop) i will do some cardio at home after work.
Hopefully when i weigh myself next time the scale will be moving in the right direction again.

Hi, this is a great group...may I join you?
I'm afraid of real rollercoasters but I know all about the diet one. I've gained and lost 50, 60, 70 pounds over the years. I started worrying about my weight when I was 10 years old...I'm now 55 and really annoyed I wasted so many years not liking myself. I had a very small heart attack last October and you'd have thought that would have been the catalyst to lose weight (I was then at around 200). However, after getting off to a good start I went completely off track after we returned from vacation in May. I weighed 220 on July 31st when I went for my semi-annual checkup at the Cardiologist's office. My highest weight ever. That woke me up. I want to be healthy and able to keep up with DH.
I am just a tad under 5'2" with a medium frame
Goal weight = 135
Current weight = 213
55 years old Married; DH and I raised 3 adopted children who have now been reunited with their birth-mother
Dog: a beautiful Mountain Feist named Daisy Mae
Cat: a handsome "tuxedo" cat named Sam
Diet plan: I've put together the "Weight-Watchers-3-Hour-Diet a la South Beach"...WW portions every 3 hours with sufficient protein, whole grains, veggies and healthy oils
Exercise: I live in Tallahassee Florida and it is very hot and humid this time of year. I rely on my health club membership for exercise opportunities. They offer a free session with a personal trainer that I'll be doing later this week. I want to set up a sustainable routine and learn to use some new machines.
"Keep it Off" Strategy: still under construction
Keeping the weight off if the tricky part and I've failed to do that so many times in the past I'm worried about how I'll manage this (hopefully last) time. What strategies are you all thinking of using?
JJ
