Okay, guys - jenniferelyse74 and I have embarked on part of our next journey in our healthy lifestyle. We're going to quit smoking!
Anyone want to join in? We need suggestions on a game plan for how to quit - we have a deadline of September 30th. Anyone done this successfully and want to offer words of wisdom? Anyone willing to be there for the rants and frustration when the cravings hit?
Thanks for your support!

Congrats on your decision to quit. I have 13 months under my belt and know how difficult it can be. I highly recommend checking out
http://www.quitnet.com its a great site with support for quitting and there is a board there for weight issues too. I wouldn't have made it this far without the wonderful people over there.

Thanks for the web site! It's great! I have an official quit date set for September 11th!
I quit using over-the-counter nicotine patch. I did not have to deal with those awful withdrawal symptoms...worked great for me.
I quit in March by reading a book. It's called 'The EasyWay for Women to Stop Smoking' by Allen Carr. He has one that's not geared towards women too. Most people have doubts about quiting by reading a book, but it was really amazing for me. You smoke while reading the book, and then you ceremoniously have your last cigarette. Cigarette smoke smelled bad to me just a few hours after quitting. I'm positive I won't go back.
i quit in 2003. i always looked at smoking as my "treat" to myself - then i decided i was so worth a better treat! i had quit before, but this time, it's stuck! at first, i would mark each smoke-free day on my calendar...then i marked weeks, then months. i don't count anymore, and sometimes, believe it or not, i do still have the occasional urge to smoke, but i don't because it would be a huge disappointment to myself to give in to a momentary lapse of reason! good luck!
I went to quitnet.com and set up a user name. Same one as here. I haven't had time to check out any of the forums or anything. Hopefully I can get to that later today.
Me too! I'm going to check out the forums when I get a few free minutes this afternoon. I'm seriously thinking about shooting for tomorrow....new month and all that. I have the nicotine gum out on my desk starting at me. :)
Okay, out of cigarettes and chewing my first piece of gum....fingers are crossed!
At least I actually have to take the time to leave the building, drive to the store if I wanted to get more. Makes me have to think about it!

I have been a smoker off and on for about 10 years now. Longer than I would like to admitt concidering Im only 25 yrs. old. Now I will never pick up another cigarette ever again because my mom is in the hospital battling lung decease. It truly is not pretty, its a nightmare!! So now Im actually watching it take away my mom's life. Anyway more power to anyone and everyone that hicks the habit.
I have less than half a pack left. Hopefully when they're gone, I'm done.
Hmmmm.....it's been four hours since I had a cigarette and the cravings are rather annoying at this point. The nicotine gum didn't do much to help. I'm hanging in there - and I'll kill my husband if he smokes anywhere near me tonight!
I usually smoke a few at work but the majority is at home when I'm trying to unwind or when the kids are going nuts.
Okay, I've been out for about 3 hours now. Haven't caved in yet....
Four hours now.
Jennifer - hang in there grl!!!
Drink lots of ice water when you get a crave. go for a walk. Lots of gum is good too. I find even after a year I chew alot of gum - especially in my car. Get some Crstal light with vitamin c to drink to help flush the toxins - or ocean spray cranberry juice is good too - there is now a diet cranberry juice. The faster you can flush the toxins the less the craves will come.

thanks united.... going to check my journal now.
Again to united.... your journal from a couple of days ago is what initially motivated me to quit at this time in my live. My resolution for 2006 was to quit sometime during the year. Jennelaw and I have been talking about methods for quitting. We were going to do it together. I believe she said if I decided to go cold turkey, she would too. Last time I heard from her was early afternoon. She had no cigs left but some nicotine gum. I had about 8 cigs left but no gum. I've never tried nicotine alternatives. In a way I was trying to go through the last 8 cigs in record timing. Her hubby smokes but mine doesn't. We both have factors for and against us. When I told hubby I only had 2 cigs left, he let me know in no uncertain terms that he wasn't going to the store for me. When I told him I was done, he said "yeah, right. I believe that one." completely sarcastic. I don't blame him because I've only quit 10 times this year. Fortunately, he more realistic about my eating plan than my quit smoking plan. I'M serious this time.
So far so good. There haven't really been any cravings so far. I haven't felt really good today, my sinuses are going nuts, so that may be why no cravings.
I'll take it any way I can get it. Somewhere between 8 and 8:30 tonight will be 24 hours. The happy dance starts at 8:31.
