Okay, guys - jenniferelyse74 and I have embarked on part of our next journey in our healthy lifestyle. We're going to quit smoking!
Anyone want to join in? We need suggestions on a game plan for how to quit - we have a deadline of September 30th. Anyone done this successfully and want to offer words of wisdom? Anyone willing to be there for the rants and frustration when the cravings hit?
Thanks for your support!

I recently quit smoking after 4 years (this time around). Overall
I have been a smoker for about 20 years. When I told my
wife I was going to quit (also a former smoker) she picked up a copy of
a book for me. I know what you are thinking, yea right, a
book. It is titled "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen
Carr. I read the book, threw away the smokes and have not looked
back or wanted one since. I have tried to quit before, used many
different ways and was not successful. I quit May 19, 2006.
I am only dealing with a slight weight gain. Mostly caused by my
age 58 and sitting on my butt the first 12 weeks while I was out of
town living in an apartment. I have given this book to two others
and they have also quit with hardly any difficulty. I highly
recommend anyone wishing to stop at least look into buying or borrowing
this book.
Thanks - I just printed the benifits of quitting article - I am new to this site and I have a planned quit date for the day after Superbowl(coming soon). I found United's Dec 29th listing quite a help to pick a date and hope to stick to it. Any other suggestions are welcomed. I really want to loose weight and quit smoking this year more than anything.
I quit and it was the hardest thing I ever did!
It was worth it.
Will cheer everyone on :)

I quit on Tuesday!
I'm using the patch & it's really helping to curb my urges. I'm just trying not to substitute smoking with snacking!
congrats to everyone who has quit! It's such a nasty habit - I can't believe I did it for so long!

quit smoking the day she found out she was pregant and informed me she
wants no smoking around her baby.Of course I said Bravo for you.So now
I am having hard time keeping things away from my mouth.Sometimes I
just walk by something and it jumps right into my mouth.(ha ha )I will
need all the support anyone is willing to share with me.thanks angela
So, I quit Tuesday at 7pm... cold turkey! After 10 years! It is REALLY hard the first few days, kinda like starting a new really strict diet.
So far, to help combat cravings at work, I bought a case of water and left it in my trunk. So when I normally would take smoke break, I still walk out with my "smoke buddies" and chat for a minute, but then I walk to my car and grab a water. This way, I don't feel like I am alienating myself from my friends, I'm still getting a break (NOW! With FRESH AIR!!), and I'm replacing a bad habit with a good one!!!
At home, I have been doing a similar "replacement". After dinner, I have started making a little mini-pot of hot tea. It has about 3 cups in it, so I just sit and sip to give myself something else to look forward to instead of a smoke! IF that doesn't do it, I add some lemon, honey or maybe a spoonful of sugar. It's really helping!
But I can't tell you that I'm not thinking about it a lot! It's SO HARD!!!!!!!

Hi
I quit 6 weeks ago with support from NHS (in the UK)
3 friends quit together, which has really helped me
Also for the first 5 weeks we had a carbon monoxide breath test each week. Helped me on 2 levels - firstly I couldn't cheat & secondly there is a measure your success
To help I'm using gum, the amount I use is reducing and some days I don't have any.
Good luck all

You go girl! I am on my 17th day and I have found that quitnet and the support that you get from this site to be an awesome help.
I'm finally going to do it. FOR REAL! I have my date picked and its 1 month and 4 days away. Thanks for keeping this thread going, you are all an inspiration to me.
I actually successfully quit this time. I'm shocked. The "benefits of quitting" thing above: I'm at the "2 weeks to 3 months" mark. Sweet.
great!
Jmbarton you can always come on here to find support. Congratulations Star on quitting. I am finishing my 5th week and I feel GREAT! It is the best decision I have made in a loooooong time.

WOW! I never heard of any one using that book besides me! It really made it easy for me to do. I stopped July 31st, my youngest son's 10th birthday. I was also scheduled for some major surgery in August and did not want to be stuck in the hospital wanting a cig. I did have the bood for over a year before I finished it, :) you can smoke while you are reading it!!
I got it on Amazon. I would recommend it to anyone. I have passed mine on to a friend who is still reading it.
Good luck to you all.
oops forgot the books name: "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr.

I found that i have been smoking even more since its been cold outside. we had a rule in my apartment that we would smoke only outside so that we wouldnt make the inside gross. my bf decided to start smoking inside now and im like 'ok, hes doing...now so can i'....which has caused me to smoke so much and i kinda dont like it. we started off only smoking in designated areas...and then it went elswhere :/
anyways, he brought home these pills that he tried only once but caved in again. it contains licorice root, st johns wort flower bud, passionflower, and some other stuff. would there by any harm in using this? i cant afford the patch or anything right now... i figured sonce hes not gonna use it...that i could try it. its called 'nicotine relief-promotes protection from envirmnetal stress'.

hi robochels ~ i found smoking outside deterred me some... can you get bf to go back to that? just for the smell of it? when you do finally quit smoking you won't have to break the old habits of smoking while watching tv, smoking in the kitchen, the bedroom etc.... made it much easier for me when i quit.
*yay* all you quitters! wtg!!!
