Stop smoking support group

Okay, guys - jenniferelyse74 and I have embarked on part of our next journey in our healthy lifestyle.  We're going to quit smoking!

Anyone want to join in?  We need suggestions on a game plan for how to quit - we have a deadline of September 30th.  Anyone done this successfully and want to offer words of wisdom?  Anyone willing to be there for the rants and frustration when the cravings hit?

Thanks for your support!

I just wanted to put in another good word for Allen Carr's 'The EasyWay to stop smoking' book. I read it last March and quit with ease. I've loaned it to a few friends and my mother-in-law. They have all quit too. My mother-in-law was probably 2.5 pack a day smoker, and she's been a non-smoker for 4 or 5 weeks now. I know it may sounds crazy to some of you, but that book works wonders. You should really try it!!
i got a gift certificate to a bookstore. i always go in not knowing what to get really...so many books to chose from. might as well get that =d

iv noticed a looked a lil bad in the face lately. im sure its due to a bad diet and smoking. iv changed some habits but i need to do alot bettr with this cuz i dont like the way i look or feel....ahhhhh
robochels :)  try drinking water ~ important for staying hydrated and to help flush out the poisons we ingest ;) here's an article about figuring out how much... and the alternative sources.

Hi everyone -

I am on day 4 of not smoking myself - I let myself indulge in whatever I wanted for  the first three days - kind of a reward for quitting after 20 years.  Amazingly I am doing it cold turkey and it is really not bothering me.

I just wanted to post and let any Canadians that are planning to quit before March 1st to be sure to go to www.driventoquit.ca and enter the contest for a new car (there are also lots of tips there too.)
I am new to this forum, and i am looking for support and willing to give.

So I started Zyban yesterday and I am to keep smoking for at least 7 to 14 days after i start it so it goes through my system.  I have tried to quit before and always failed, from the next day to 6 months later.

Part of my goals in losing weight is to quit smoking, cause i want to go running with my friend he runs marathons, and we want to do joints in motion together.  I also want to play soccer but i don't want to be the fat girl on the team.  it's so mean to say, and i hate to say it but everyteam has one, but good for them they are getting out and doing something.  Anyways so I have set my quit day for Feb.28 cause that is almost two weeks from the start and the end of the month so why not right.
I have tried quitting about 2 times a year for the past 7 years. I have gone as long as 6 month before I started again. That was over 2 years ago. I used Zyban (Wellbeutron) at that time. It worked great for me. Then I let myself start again. I am now using the commit lozenge. I was doing great until Thursday night. I went out with a group of friends after work and some people were smoking. So, I smoked right along. I started over again today. I am determined to do it this time. Sometimes it is really hard not to smoke. Like tonight I was sitting on my couch and had this feeling that I wanted to get up and go outside to light up. So instead I took a big healthy drink of water and popped a commit.

I think quitting smoking is one of the hardest things I have ever done. I know others feel the same way. It is especially hard if you are trying to eat right and not go overboard on food.

Good Luck to all.
I agree aptaylor: it is HARD to quit smoking. But if you really want it more than anything else then that makes it a whole lot easier. I am on day 54 and last night we were going to a party where they would be drinking. (Now I am not a drinker, once or twice or year at the most, but I knew that this would be the first time since quitting that I would be around alcohol and every one who smokes or used to smoke know how well the two vices pair up). So while on the drive their my husband and I kept going over the reasons why I should keep my quit. By the end of our ride I felt confident because I confirmed my reasons for wanting to quit in the first place.

When you know you are about to face a tough situation go over in your mind why you want to stay quit.

some of mine are:

fertility, clean and white teeth, health, longevity, endurance, stamina etc

hugs and congrats on every one's success.
just wanted to say i quit the first of january and have not had a smoke or a sneak since. not easy living with two smokers- but i have done it.

goodbye smoker.

and yes, i have gained weight, but i think that's because i gave myself the whole month of january off to eat whatever made me feel good since i knew smoking was going to call my n ame.

i am now back on the weight loss train and slowly losing.

qiutting smoking is really the very best thing i could have done for my weight loss. i finally feel like a REALLY healthy eprson - not just a smallish faker.

Hello! I quit smoking in October of 2001 after smoking for 11 years. I consider it the biggest accomplishment of my life! The patch helped a lot for me, I guess because I knew if I was wearing it I couldn't light up, and it took the edge off. But I was also very mentally addicted to cigarettes. It was very hard after meals, so instead of sitting there I would take a walk around the block. Now I'm much more physically active than I used to be. I like to go roller skating at least a couple times a week, and I also walk and do resistance bands. My life is so much happier now, it is SO worth it to quit! All I can say is the more time goes by the easier it gets. So don't give in after just a day or a week. It's a lot of work. I wish you luck!
I have been quiting for 3 weeks by reading and following the instructions from this quit smoking ebook such as understand addiction, creating supporter and success strategies. http://www.stop-and-quit-smoking.com

Just ran across this thread....and have only had time to read first page and last page....

I am 6 days into my Chantix script. So far I have cut back considerably even though they say to smoke normally the first week. I have not wanted to smoke that much. Sunday is supposed to be  my quit day but my Doc says that if I continue to smoke it's OK because with the Chantix I will quit.

I am happy to report that I also lost 2.4 (or was it 2.6?) pounds this week so I did not increase my eating!
I recently quit 55 or so days ago. I have been taking Chantix and I am doing better than any previous quits. And I live(love) with a man who smokes so it's been toigh at moments but I am doing it this time! And here's the kicker, I have not gained an ounce! Actually lost a couple pounds! GO ME !!!!!
