How Do YOU stop yourself from eating Temptations?
i am always facing Temptations cuz my family is unsupportive and have a bucket of icecream everynight and a huge block of chocolate @ least once a week.... among other things they always buy fatty foods and they are always there and sometimes i just have a little or sometimes i binge on these but i know that if they wernt there then i wouldnt eat em!
...so how do you stop yourself from eating Temptations and keep up the motivation to continue with your diet??
For me it is not having it in the house which sounds impossible for you. Also I allow myself a cheat meal once or twice a week that includes desert. I don't allow myself any desert during the week but on Friday night I do and once in a while on Saturday or Sunday. I don't make it a cheat "day" just a cheat "meal" and I workout extra on the weekend to make up for it.
Hi Kris,
I promise myself 1 full glass of water before each meal or before I sit down to eat anything that way when I do eat I get fuller faster.
Also, try to remember ... you will forget what it tastes like in 10 minutes anyway... is it really worth it?
I also live with the sweet, carb, unhealthy food buying people... they should all be put on an island I swear... j/k.
Best of wishes

grapes and apples are excellent to eat IN PLACE of chocolate. Try it, you'll see.
i just look at myself in the mirror and imagine myself as fat as I was before and/or fatter. Believe me the temptation goes away.
Just think to yourself how much better it will feel to be thin in the long run, than it will to taste that junk food for a just a few seconds.
I was just about to eat some lindor chocolate, and I thought to myself "no", it's not worth wrecking my diet it just so I can taste this chocolate just for a moment....
It works for me.
I'd eat the right amount of sugar everyday to prevent bingeing, but then again it doesn't work for everyone.
i take half a graham cracker, put 2 tbsp of reddi-whip on top and a tbsp of crushed chocolate chips and freeze it. just over 100 cals and i was able to stop at one--and trust me, i'm definitely the type of person to start with a nibble and end with a shovelful.
Personally, I ask myself:
If you could be anywhere right now eating ice cream, would it be sitting infront of the tv with your family just mindlessly shoving it in your face?
Naw, I'd rather have a night where I take a bubble bath, section out just enough ice cream to satisfy me, and enjoy it that way.
I really think there is a time and a place to have your cake and eat it too. For me, it's not at work functions, its not even at family functions, its planned, portioned, and enjoyed.
I also think to myself "Did you plan on having ice cream today?" - then you shouldn't feel like you're missing out.
As for the chocolate, I buy those bags of individual DARK chocolate squares, snap off the smallest pieces, and let it melt in my mouth. TASTE IT. Enjoy it :) Chocolate is amazing.
As is ice cream. So take flavors you can really enjoy the texture of. My personal flavor is Bryers (Edys) Slow Churned Vanilla Bean. It's gotta be BEAN. Amazing.
Am I psycho? I find intimacy in my desserts :)
I just have to say that alyssa2002's dessert idea sounds AWESOME. I shall go and buy the ingredients now, haha.
Kris - I would keep your own "stash" of indulgent but healthier foods. So, frozen yogurt, a really satisfying organic dark chocolate bar (usually the food mongers prefer milk chocolate, hehe), maybe some berries...
Good luck! --Dana
How about approaching this differently? Relying on willpower only goes so far. So why not talk to your family and ask them to stop filling the house with so much junk? If you were a recovering alcoholic would they sit in front of you swigging whisky? Explain how bad being fat makes you feel. If they eat 'buckets' of ice-cream I expect they're not exactly sylph-like themselves. Talk to them about improving everyone's diet. Concern about your health, their health. If people love you, they'll listen and maybe adapt their behaviour to support you.
My family used to be the same way but after I talked to them about it they became pretty good about not buying a bunch of baked goods and ice cream for the house but every once in a while my mother will come back from the store with two huge tubs of ice cream, which then sit in the freezer taunting me. What I usually do when I wasn't planning on having dessert but I'm tempted is drink a couple cup of tea without any sugar in it (if you want you could add splenda or something without any calories to sweeten it up) and really think about what having the ice cream will mean (I will go over my calorie count, I will set my diet back, etc, etc). Then if I'm still tempted, I take a bunch of baby carrots out of the fridge and munch on them. They are low in calories and fill me up pretty quickly. But once the ice cream is in the fridge, I'll set aside some calories and measure myself out 1/2 a cup of ice cream and then go upstairs and eat it in my room. The key for me is not to go downstairs to the kitchen again for any reason because that 1/2 cup is bound to turn into 1/2 a tub if I'm not careful.
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
