I was wondering about metabolism; if your metabolism slows down will it ever increase again.
I just started "dieting" in a healthy way with calorie-count but before i was starving myself, losing weight the incorrect way. It worked for a while till it started to really affect my health.
I'm now try to consume 1200 calories but i used to eat around 650 calories, will my metabolism pick up and return to normal when i eat 1200 calories or will i just gain weight?

You will get rehydrated and renew your glycogen stores, so you might gain two or three pounds (necessary ones!), but your metabolism will indeed pick itself back up when you start eating enough. You will not gain fat.
Though you should be eating more than 1200 calories, unless you are still overweight. Which according to your previous posts (5'7", 153 lbs, recovering from an eating disorder) you're not.
1200 is a fair place to start, but eventually you want to be getting up to 1800 or so.

i'm also recovering from an eating disorder and have had a terrible time readjusting to "healthy nutrition." this site is pretty good - nice support here, and you really can control your portions with the calorie knowlege.
i'm 138, 5'6", trying to get to about 115. some days are really tough - i think it's going to be easier to lapse back into the bad behavior. then i think, it's nice to enjoy the food for a change, yeah? like really taking time to prepare healthy meals or eating with my husband versus eating alone.
nice to see you here though. do drop me a line if you need any support. :)

Your body needs time to adjust to actually consuming a healthy number of calories. Once your body realizes that it will not be in starvation mode, which usually takes about two weeks. You can then work on incorporating diet and exercise together to safely lose weight. Also by exercising you will increase your metabolism.
