Storing and reheating grilled chicken, any suggestions?

Quote  |  Reply

Forgive me if I haven't done a thorough search to see if this has been asked, but here's my question.  I'd like to grill several pounds of boneless skinless chicken breasts for the week.  What's the best way to store them so they still taste ok when reheated?  Or, maybe the advice I need is how to reheat them without turning them into a rubbery dried out mess.

Thanks!

I do this all the time.  The trick is to very slightly undercook them.  I leave what I'm going to have for dinner that day in the pan to finish cooking and spread the rest out on a cutting board to cool.  I wrap each one tightly in plastic wrap (my daughter uses her Food Saver.)  Then I put the individually wrapped pieces into a labeled, plastic freezer bag.  I can thaw just one and reheating it finishes the cooking.

i cook a few every sunday on the george foreman and i put different spices and rubs on them. as soon as they come off the grill i wrap them in plastic also and keep them in a container in the fridge and then i reheat them in the microwave. i dont know why it works for me, i hear people say it gets dry, but mine always end up having juice inside the plastic- maybe its the spices

Thanks ladies -

I'll be using my little George Foreman grill too.  I think I'll try meaganmeagan's method first to see how I fair.  clairelaine's method looks equally promising - I'm just trying to avoid freezing because my whole purpose of pre cooking is to be able to quickly prepared meals with chicken during the week.  Sadly, anything that has to be defrosted stays in my freezer forever.  Of course I'm assuming that cooked chicken in the fridge for 6 days is safe.

If there are any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks!

meaganmeagan, when you reheat - do you just put the tightly plastic wrapped chicken in the microwave?  or do you unwrap or pierce the plastic?

meaganmeagan --- I wanna know too.   I just posted "the best way to freeze meat?"   because my mom bought me tons --5 for $25.  which is awesome, but I will never be able to use it all right away......

I got premade (fresh) hamburger patties, sirloin steaks (2), pork steaks and precooked chicken wings.   Looking forward to lots of easy frozen/fast use dinners and making a bunch of say pepper steak and stuff for easy eatins too. any other good dinner ideas with that type of meat?  I am MUCH more chicken breasts and frozen fish........    but hey, free food is free food.   I am so broke now that I am single again.
