I straight up ran two miles this morning!

Quote  |  Reply

I just wanted to celebrate! 4 months ago when I started exercising I could barely run 2 minutes before the cramps and trouble breathing made me stop.  It felt good to run 2 miles in a half hour this morning, and I'm darn proud of myself!

That 5k I've been shooting for doesn't seem so far off now.

Congratulations!  I remember when I accomplished that -- and I don't run -- it was a great feeling of accomplishment.  Be very proud of yourself.
GOOOOD JOB (:

I was so happy when I ran two miles.

a 5k is my goal too. I hope to acheive it by summer Smile

congrats!

What an awesome feeling right??? I normally can do 1-1.5 miles and I quit (on the treadmill) but thursday I ran 3.5 miles in 35 minutes and then later did 2.2 miles. It was awesome! I am really quite proud of myself and so should you Laughing!

Good luck and your 5k!

thank you everybody :)

GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!!

I have no motivation to run. I am a bit top heavy and it hurts too much! heehee

I can walk though!Wink

I envy all of you for your dedication. Maybe one day i will attempt it! Right now, i just run after 3 kids!

CONGRATS RUNNERS! I am soooooo proud!

Isn't it a little like learning to fly???

it was all I could do to fast walk a mile last summer, and now my pup and I are running 3.5 miles every day.

I'd like to hear from other running chicks--  what are some of the most obvious body benefits you think you get from jogging?

My mom keeps saying my butt looks smaller......

(yay, I guess? LOL)

I have the same question. My hips do "look" smaller to me, but I do know that they are cuz I measure monthly. I want awesome looking legs...will I get that from running?

I run over 7 miles a day 5 days a week.

My butt has gotten smaller, my hips have gotten smaller, my upper body has gotten VERY small.  My legs are starting to get a toned look.

While I long for the stick figure look and not the muscle look, my legs are getting definition and nothing on them moves anymore.  I've been running since November.

wow ladies!! you are making ME WANT TO TRY AND RUN!!

Do any of you have issues with being top heavy and running? maybe i could get into joggin/running if i could make it less painful.

congrats to all of you!! i envy your determination!

TIME TO START RUNNNIIINNNGG!!

Yeah I'm definitely losing most of my weight through my hips and thighs (at least so far) so one big benefit has been better-fitting pants! I also have noticed that going up the stairs at home in a hurry no longer winds me, nor does playing games with my preschoolers.

jadaka - there are so many different kinds of bras out there... surely one can get those ladies under control!

LOL<  amen ( :

I used to double bra myself.  I hate the jiggling i.e. getting almost smacked in the face by your own....girls is just wrong.

If all else failed, I guess you could Ace bandage them down a little and then bra up too.  ALso, my boobs were the first thing to start shrinking, I swear.... SO get out there and jog!   ( :

I can;t wait until I feel like my legs are hot.  ( :   I definitely agree with better fitting pants though, for sure!!!!

OLIVIA: you crack me up! i always invision wrapping the girls up in ace bandages...as you can see from my profile pick, the girls do tend to smack me around!! haha

I have lost 22 lbs from CC so far, and although my boobs have shrunk a bit, i am still nursing my 3 month old. My girlfriend just said to get out there and make milk shakes for stella's lunch!!

I DO have a jogging stroller, which I HAD to have...mostly becaue i like the 3 wheel look...not because my ass was gonna jog... really at this point i am just making excuses... i gotta go get an ace bandage!Wink

u ladies are funny!  I usually double up anyway...I dont want them to move while I am running at all.

WOW tatjanaturtle! 35 miles a week for 3 months for my legs to start to look tone? I am a little muscular tho and so the stick figure look isnt for me~ I love my curves! But kudos to you! Hopefully theyll tone up for my body type.

So heres a question...and olivia may be able to answer it since you run in the cold. I ran 3.48 miles today and it was 22 outside (started snowing as soon as I got back~blah!) how do I get my nose not to constantly run while running? It was quite annoying...I'm thinking shoving klennex up there...or tampons...lol.

Anyone with suggestions???

This is somewhat gross...but, I will always wear a sweatshirt that I really don' t care about and wipe my nose on my sleeve.  Really, I can't carry tissues, they just get wet anyway.  This weekend I ran in 0 degree weather...it was invigorating, but you're' right, the runny nose can stink.

...that is to say I do a load of laundry every day just to wash the darn sweatshirt.  Maybe bring a bandana for that use with you?  Tissues always get too damp for me and I never have anywhere to put them.

I too have curves...lots of them, I'm a 100% pear shape.  Your legs will definitely get shapely makin'itcount44.  Before I started running, I was doing step aerobics...I never quite got my legs to not jiggle...but now they don't with all the running.

...and I was actually doing only 6.1 - 6.5 miles a day up until last week, so...it's been a slow climb to get to the miles I do.

Good luck!

YAY for funny boob stories.  LOL

making it count --  I never did email you back.   I only walked as fast and hard as I could when I started last summer, so just up the ante as you feel you can.  I found a doggie to walk who really wanted to run when he was finally off the short chain, so I ran with him until I couldn;t any more.  I set goals --- like make it to the next stop sign,  mailbox, hydrant, whatever.  As it becomes easy to reach them every day, set it farther apart or I also try to do step it up and "sprint" every other block or so, and then run slow and steady for as long as I can, etc......

I found music immensely helpful in keeping my butt moving in the beginning.   Now I listen to my breathing and try to get the stride right,  but I still sing in my head.   ( :

I definitely am the kind of person who gets bored easily too, so I mapped out several different routes of differing lengths, so the scenery changes and keeps me motivated to get out there.   I also work out inside as much as I can, fitness ball (abs!!!!, arms, legs, etc) pushups, SQUATS!!!   etc.  I find the squats are helping me with the jogging too.

As far as the snottiness goes,  I dare you to jog with tampons in your nose!!!!  (I will mail you $5 if you post a pic!!!!)   xoxoxoxox  Actually the running site I found says the snottier, the better 'cause that means you are breathing in through the nose, out through the mouth.  Did you know nose air hits your muscles faster and is easier to use than mouth air?  (according to the site....)

Thanks for the tips! I might just take you up on your little bet Olivia  LoL! And yes I did know that about nose air...its more humid then mouth air, but really didnt put the two together. Well so maybe I wont worry too much about it then...I want it to be good for me and my health.

I am making my strides so I think I might just work on anywhere from 2 to 4 miles for a while, depending on how I feel and what day it is. I dont want to necessary do the same thing everyday and have my body get use to it. I want to keep it guessing and keep my metabolism up.

tatjanaturtle~ like you I used the sweatshirt I was wearing so yep that is in the wash right now. So I will either just keep that up or bring something extra to use. thanks!

thanks to the tips and good luck everyone!

congratulations!! i know how happy my parents will be when they get where you are and thats a big step up so keep doing what you're doing!!

you girls are great and so funny!! bouncing boobs and runny noses...  you give me SO MUCH to look forward to when i think about running!!!

i love the idea of tampons! haha, you should just shove em up there and take a pic for our sake!! running with those little buggers up your nose may be difficult tho, the strings would tickle your lips!!

haha

sorry, i couldnt resist! Foot in mouth

anyhow, the bandana thing sounds good, if you tie it around your wrist and wipe as you go.  I dont think i could pull off sleeves since i am constantly yelling at my little ones to use tissues!! heehee

i told hubby that you ladies gave me motivation to run...he said walk briskly and jog first. do not start running out of the gate or i will hurt myself and HATE it and swear it off for life!

jadaka --  LOL

It will tickle your lips  ----   LMAO for real

I agree with hubby -- take it slow and steady first.  Add some short sprints to a goal point or something , but do what feels good.  ( :

I am never, NEVER going to win an speed races -- my goal is just to keep going!!!!!
