If you were stranded on a desert island...

....and could only do three exercises to stay healthy, what would they be?

(stupid scenario, but humor me...Laughing)

Swimming, running, and tree climbing.  It's a deserted island, so all three of those would be used in hunting for food. But if it's a desert island, then swimming would probably be it.  The day would be too hot and I'd have to conserve energy :)

Of course, if it's a dessert island, then I'd have to be doing a lot more.  Otherwise, I'd just be sitting around eating the Oreo trees all day....

Assuming that they can be compound movements, I would do:

- Squats + overhead presses

- Push-ups (possibly burpees, if I were fit enough)

- Lunges with bicep curls

Excellent...more?

1 + 2: Squats and pushups for sure.....

3: then either pull ups or Bulgarian split squats.

I would add cardio for one, but if I was on an island deserted, I probably wouldn't need cardio.....but even then I think I would just say jumping jacks or squat jumps (some form of plyo)

(notice they are all compound movements that use many muscles)

I would be doing sprints so I'd be fast enough to run away from the canibolistic natives...

And also walking lunges and push ups.

I think we all should be proud that we could probably survive a desert island. (I would have been a goner had I been stranded 40lbs ago-LOL)

coconut throwing and fighting off predators

Swimming, fishing, and tree-climbing!  I love this thread XD

Well, if it's a desert island (as opposed to tropical), it may not have many food resources.  I'm guessing it would be hard to accumulate an excess of calories  so I wouldn't want to expend too many calories outside of hunting for food, which would take up a lot energy and time in and of itself.  But to keep up strength, I guess I'd go with burpees and squats.

I'm also going to imagine that I would get "lucky" and wind up with a Wilson so I could have someone to talk to and kick/punch around when needed.

Running, burpees, pushups.  I think that would be good.

Swimming, chopping down trees, and boat building.

My thinking exactly. All my energy will be devoted to building an escape raft and swimming just in case I'm in the water.

Hahaha.

I would do crunches, lunges, and run my tooshie off!

running and surfing (i'm adding swimming to the surfing to come up with biking also then i would try to do a tri.  i lack in ocean swimming.

or maybe i should rethink my priorities and get food gathering and boat building exercises with running to stay in shape?

Edit:  Swimming, Running to get food, Boat Building to get off the island (consider that strenth training).  And if i need to swim at leaset I've been doing it.

Well if I was stranded on a deserted island, I would probably have other things on my mind besides exercise like trying to find food and water on a regular basis..LOL

However, if that wasn't a problem and I could afford to focus on secondary things like exercise, I would choose these three :

1) Burpees - You get resistance (push-ups) and cardio all in one. One of the best overall conditioning exercises you can do. They are killer.

2) Pull-Ups/Chin-Ups - This is assuming I could find a tree branch low enough to hang onto...LOL I count it as one exercise because it is just a matter of switching your grip.

3) Lunges - You have to get some type of lower body workout. When you are using weights, squats is obviously the best thing you can do for your lower body. However, lunges are much harder to do than squats when using your own body-weight. They would offer a better leg workout.

Assuming that I will be rescued some sort of way ... because I don't know how to swim and have an irrational fear of deep water:

Zumba: Latin Dancing (mix of Somba, salsa, soca, belly dancing, ect) and I LOVE the music.  Keeps things fun for Cardio!

Walking around the island and hunting/gathering food

Yoga: to keep my mind and body in tune.

I'm going to need to be stranded with  3 other people so we can get a decent sand volleyball game going.

Otherwise I'm practicing swimming so I can make it to the mainland.
