Strange combinations of foods

Quote  |  Reply

Hehe...has anyone else ever tried putting brown rice in their tea?  It's actually pretty good lol.

I'm not sure why, but I've really gotten into mixing lots of different foods together, and I, of course, know I can't be the only one, so I'm curious about who else likes to do this, and what you think your strangest combination(s) is(are)?

people think dipping hot cheetos in tuna, tilapia, beef, and chicken is strange... but it's one of my FAVORITE foods!

i heard someone say they liked to put oatmeal in their tea, and i didn't think that was strange and not very far off from your rice in tea lol

I like to dip hot cheetos in softened cream cheese. (one of my fave foods too, peace!)

I also like BBQ sauce, chopped jalapenos and onions mixed into with my canned tuna- sort of like a BBQ pork. (This works with canned chicken as well!)

I love baked sliced apples with shredded mild cheddar and some brown sugar/cinnamon on top. I don't think this is strange since my mom always made that for me but my BF thought it was weird and gross when I first made it for us. *shrugs* More for me! :)

I've experimented with so many weird food combos but those three are my faves.

for some reason, it doesn't taste right with ff cream cheese so I use light instead. I also have tried it with Flaming Hot Lays, not bad but sometimes I hate that the chips aren't not coated enough in that red goodness like hot cheetos.

i put ketchup on pretty much everything. rice, vegetables, chicken, etc.

I really like a thin layer of Peanut butter spread on toast then topped with jalapeno hummous!

Also... carrot and grapes together

mayo and chips

salad cream or mayo on top of hot pizza Yumm.

* 1/2 cup of cinnamon applesauce with Grape Nuts sprinkled on top

This is one of my favorite desserts.

Also:

* canned pumpkin spread on whole wheat toast.

yum yum yum

* Ketchup & Cabbage(or mustard or tomato paste)

* Ketchup & Bell Peppers(or mustard or tomato paste)

* Ketchup & Spaghetti Squash(or tomato paste)

* Salmon Fat & Steamed Cabbage(or leeks, or asparagus)

- Eh, I guess my combos aren't that weird... I can't think of them right now, too brain fried!... Hm, food combo: fried brain... interesting. ha.

i think both are good (light and fat free) i like the stats of fat free and dont notice the difference TOO much, so i just get that. =) i know, man.. i iwsh they would make a hot cheeto powder =X im surprised they never thought to do that..

oh, to the OP, i just remembered.. my parents think eating cup noodles with tapatio picante sauce and lemon are strange combos, but I LOVEEEEEE the stuff. yea, im a spicy girl lol

I love having baby carrots and grapes together too (especially with a few pistachios or peanuts)

heating up baked sweet potatoes with red delicious apples in cinnamon with a little bit of extra sharp cheddar cheese and some peanuts is awesome, especially if you take them down slowly to let each flavor bounce around in your mouth

-Mustard as a spread for bread.  I thought I was strange, until I saw people doing it in France.  A jar of Dijon set in the middle of the table to eat on your baguette.

-Instant oatmeal made with coffee.

-Oatmeal topped with turmeric and hot lime pickle relish.

ketchup & any meat/fish

ketchup & broccoli

Ketchup & eggs

Ketchup & soft pretzels

Pretzel Goldfish in my Chicken Noodle soup

Sweet Relish in my salads & tuna

Oatmeal with coffee? Oatmeal with turmeric? I must try those sometime.

Coffee + oatmeal are my 2 favourite things! Why didn't I think of that?!

I like scrambled eggs with Cinnamon, splenda and syrup, its prett yummy!

Now I am having ideas of using old fashioned oats boiled with some vanilla cream and coffee....

Savory oats, I'm a bit scared to try. Grew up with sweet oats. Is it really that good- turmeric and hot pickle relish? Do you use stone ground or the thick kind old fashioned oats?

I'd sprinkle the hot cheeto powder on EVERYTHING! lol... gosh they really should...

Your parents' choice- sounds good! I always put ground red pepper and texas pete or redhot in my cup'o noodles when I was in college. Lemon would have sooo added to the flavor.... I'm a spicy girl too Cool.. Sometimes I like to drink the hot sauce out of the bottle.... *hides in corner due to shame*

amandief, with the savory oats, it's a little more complicated because....

Starting out dry, I mix 2/3 cup oats with 1/3 cup "binder" (buckwheat groats and corn meal work for this) with 1 cup wheat bran.  I slow toast this mixture in a pan on the stove.  Then I boil it in 3-1/2 cups of water until it gets really thick.  By the time I get done, it's really more of a toasty grainy side dish than oatmeal, and maybe that's why it works as a savory dish.  I eat it for breakfast.  Straight out oatmeal is too gooey and bland for me.  I've eaten it with all kinds of savory toppings and like most of them.  When I run out of lime pickle I'll go back to hot giardinara relish.

For the coffee oatmeal, I started out doing it in a motel room where I didn't have any boiling water.  I've tried just about every instant flavor Quaker makes, and prefer the maple or date/raisin/walnut.  The stronger the coffee the better it tastes.  You don't use much, just enough to make it nice and pasty.

All this talk about soup....I take Campbell's chicken noodle soup, add a little garlic and some red pepper flakes, bring it to a boil, then stir in a whisked egg, and finish it with some lemon juice.  The combination is somewhere between a Chinese egg flower and Greek avgolemono (? sp).  A brandy finish would probably move it over near Marseilles....

I like peanut butter and spinach sandwiches.
Or grilled cheese and spinach sandwiches with ketchup.
I also like my french toast with ketchup instead of syrup.

Savory oats are so delicious! I love making oatmeal risotto (you just use steel-cut oats instead of rice; don't use quick oats or it'll just get mushy). It's absolutely divine, and great for when you want to change things up a bit.

I don't think I have any really strange food combos of my own. About the strangest thing I like is to have a bowl of rice with an over-easy egg on top, so that when I pierce the yolk it runs down into the rice, and with a big dollop of ketchup on the side so I can have some on each bite. A slice of really crispy bacon takes the whole thing over the top.

Ooh, or eggs poached in tomato sauce with garlic bread. Mmmmmm....

i often dip raw mushrooms in honey :/
