Strange Ice Cream Truck Songs

Quote  |  Reply

I live right outside of Detroit, MI where we're experiencing a nice fall evening. First of all, it's weird that an ice cream truck would drive by at 8pm in this cool weather. Secondly, it was playing Christmas music....jingle bells, actually.

Sounds like a weird scary movie thing! I can see it slowly driving down your street in the middle of the night. Ha ha.

There's an ice cream truck that comes by year round that plays the Tetris song.

And though it's not an ice cream truck, my friend souped up his car to play part of the Munster's theme with his horn.

Which Tetris song?  You had a choice of three (on NES).

i CANNOT beleive that there is a topic going on for this, i LITERALLY just had this conversation in my parking lot a few minutes ago. It was playing lullabye and goodnight..... not a song to get you eating??? lol

The bell that rings at the English academy I work at plays the normal ice cream truck song ("The Entertainer"?). It's annoying.

hahaha that made me giggle. I could imagine the look on your face....jingle bells?

Ours plays a song that is very similar to the "Hello Moto" ringtone.  Though it's a woman's voice that says "hello."

Oh my god, guys. Thank you SO MUCH for reminding me of that awful ice cream truck that used to troll around my neighborhood (two neighborhoods and two YEARS ago!) I thought I would never have that damned song stuck in my head again! The wost part is, I have no idea what song it is... I just hear deedalee deedalee dee da dum da dee da dum da deee deeee... deedalee deedalee dee da dum da dee da dum dee daaa...

Et cetera, et cetera, ad nauseum et infinitum.

frown face.

Was it this Cord?  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kdtg9vaEqd8

If I had an ice cream truck I'd use this song.

We don't have ice cream trucks here. Unless you count the Swans man. And he doesn't play music.

We have a guy that has a huge cooler bicycle that he sells ice cream from. He rings a little bell but he bikes to fast to catch his stupid butt.

Hunh, we had an ice cream truck come through the neighborhood the other day (end of summer, the first time I'd heard one) and it had some new modern song, which I am completely spacing out, but I thought at the time that I missed the old time favorite in its full annoying glory: Turkey in the Straw.

And is really, really sketchy, if you see it up close. I know a number of people who think it's a drug front, but I think it's just sketchy ice cream.

Of course, that's presuming it's the same ice cream truck, but I'm putting the chances of more than one "la cucarachacha" playing ice cream truck that appears only late at night as pretty slim.

Oh, I forgot that part. The no-name song one in my old neighborhood was primarily a drug truck that also sold ice cream. They even did a study at my college - they played the song for area druggos trying to kick the habit and recorded their blood pressure as it went through the roof. They called it "environmental triggers"... I call it cruel science!

Ours plays La Cucaracha, too. It's pretty disgusting, when you think about it.

If one played the Mario theme, though, they'd have my business for life.

The ones in my neighbourhood play a mix of punjabi music (we live a few blocks from a temple) and circus-y music... and it's all in that beep-beep-boop ice cream truck chime style.

How did they find punjabi music like that? Or did they create it themselves? I do not know, but it must work... and ITS LOUD, like so loud you have to pause if your watching TV because you can hear nothing else!

I wonder if they sell frozen curry on a stick? On second thought, I'd rather not find out...

I want to know why this became an ice cream truck song in the first place.  One of the all time great ragtime composers, and Scott Joplin is reduced to playroom music so someone can sell frozen sugar water to kids. (Never cared for the bomb pops, but I will admit to really looking forward to frosty malts.)

hahaha I have no idea, santo.
My first day at work at my school I couldn't stop laughing when the bell rang. And of course, I had to explain the whole ice cream truck phenomenon to my Korean co-workers... who didn't understand why people were too lazy to just go to the store to buy ice cream. lol

Hey! I thought I was the only one who's seen a tetris Ice cream truck. The guy inside was really creeepy too, long hair and he always wore a patch. He could have been a former pirate or something.

But even still, the Tetris theme is just creepy for an ice cream truck, its like trying to sell candy while playing "dope show" my marilyn mason :P

When I lived in Baltimore there was one that played "She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain" with accents of claps, honks, whistles... then the music stops for a couple of seconds and a recorded voice shouts out, "HELLO?!" and it goes all over again. I swear that ice cream truck circled the neighborhood day and night, or maybe I was just hearing it on loop in my head because I was overexposed to it.

When I moved down to Richmond, I was dismayed to hear the neighborhood ice cream truck playing the same &$%#ing song, though fortunately it doesn't make the rounds nearly as frequently as the one in Bmore.
