Strange but interesting question

Quote  |  Reply

So i have started back on track again, I am 21 years old male and am 6'3 335-340 ish. I have always been quite active just my diet has always suffered. I don't feel like I am this big walking around, exercising etc...  Does anybody else feel this way? I play basketball with people and keep up with them, football you name it. Just today my friend who is overweight but is probably 90 pounds lighter than me struggles to keep up with me on the treadmill. So what my question is does anyone not feel as big as they really are? I know I have a huge bone structure, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Yeah, and i think age and muscle have something to do with it too.

My weight has fluctuated.  I never really felt restricted in what I could do until the last year or two (I'm 27).  I started doing Yoga again and went to bend, and there was just too much of me to have the same flexibility.  Yell

However I remember being 21, and feeling even though I was a heavier than my friends, I could outrun them, was more active, could beat them at arm wrestling etc.

Have you ever watched Penn and Tellers show on Sho time called Bull****.  They did one on obesity and had a competition where 3 larger guys and one thinner guy all had to compete in athletic events.  The thin dude lost every event.

So I think weight is not a 100% indicator of your ability to keep up or be active.  But I would say it's great you are trying to loose weight now while you are young, active, and have no stress on your joints or medical conditions that restrict your activity.  Once that crap sets in it makes it a much harder (and slower) road.  Smile

its defintiely possible to be fitter than smaller people, plain and simple, small definitely does not = fit!

my bf is 6'8" - 315 at his highest 290 when we met and about 245 now. he doesnt feel big and he is strong as an ox. he only feels big when complete strangers say dayum how tall are you? so he pretends to be small - he gets real quite and shy so as not to draw attention to himself. its cute as hell.

i am in better overall shape than he is but he started going to the track with me and once he gets those long legs moving there is no way i can catch him in a sprint. of course one stride is like 8 feet haha.

looks can be deceiving... i think you will feel your body more the older you get. the stress and strain of life catches up over time. health and fitness is your best defense. you go dude. :)

my husbands coworker is about 400 lbs, 5'11" and he moves as though weight doesn't bother him.  he is able to do every thing that my husband can do.

i totally agree with watergirl about "looks can be deceiving".  just because your skinny doesn't mean that your healthy or your in shape.

in regards to penn and teller ive seen that episode that tortoisewins talks about.  i was totally shocked when i saw the results of that contest but its so true.

it made me feel a bit better about my weight. ;)
