I don't really know why, but one of my thighs is quite a bit bigger than the other. I had a stress fracture like 6 months ago, but I would imagine the leg that didn't have the stress fracture would be smaller since it had to do extra work. I'm a runner, but I don't notice myself running lopsided or anything.... Any ideas on how this happened and how to fix it? Thanks!
1) People aren't symmetrical
2) nobody notices but you.
lol...meenie....
I was a pro track runner, and one of the things i noticed was that one of my legs was bigger too, and one side of my back was bigger as well...then i realized that i ran in one direction around the track, and the forces were different from one side of my body to the other.....my case was EXTREMELY noticeable...so I just ran the other direction More often.
Is the larger thigh your dominant thigh?
I'm a lefty, and my left hand, foot, thigh, leg are all longer or wider than my right. My feet are at least half a size, if not more, different. Just the way it is.
The subject title just beckons to be checked out. I have nothing except to agree that we are rarely symmetrical and wouldn't worry much.
do you lift? I don't know WHY, but it might help if you always lift your 'smaller' leg first, ensuring that you are lifting as heavy as you can for that one and then using the same weight for the other leg. Trainer told me I should always lift for my weaker side to avoid lopsidedness......
lol but my whole right size is larger than my left....got a lil more chub on that side and muscles are a lil bigger.....
My right thigh is 1 inch smaller than my left thigh. My left thigh is dominant, which makes sense since that's the leg I give preference to. I didn't even notice until I started taking measurements. Even after taking measurements, both of my thighs have lost an inch since I started working out, and my right is still smaller! Go figure.
Huh. I don't know. I'm right handed, but my left leg is usually dominant, but my right thigh is bigger. I do lift, but usually not standing, so I don't know. The running is quite possible, but I guess it could be running the same route too many times since I don't run THAT much on a track.
Thanks everybody!
My right arm is bigger than my left arm, and my right calf is also bigger. I did gymnastics and was a lefty, so you would think my left leg would be the bigger, stronger one, and my left arm as well, but i think my left side was just leaner because i used it more often...
Anyways, I've told people about my calves being completely different sizes (like about 1.5 inches difference) and no one notices. I would say unless you have a difference of 2 inches or more, don't worry about it! Make sure you work out both sides equally though!
I know exactly why. I have the same problem and it bugs the hell out of me. Additionally, I have been unable to even them out at all. It is because the leg with the stress fracture atrophied. You've lost some muscle, your fat has probably redistributed a little and walla! 2 different sized legs. In my case, I had foot surgery and my entire leg is smaller. Nobody has ever said anything to me, but I find it extremely noticible. I've even tried working out just my smaller leg to no avail. Good luck....let me know if you find a solution.
