I have fairly sensive skin, so now that I am changing the shape of my body I have noticed I am developing streach marks. I thought that they only occured when your body increased in size? I haven't lost a lot of weight but I have put on alot of muscle. Could this be why? Is there anyway I can get rid of them? Does anyone know anything about why this might happen?

I don't know why, But as I got bigger I noticed a few stretch marks. Thats when I got serious about loosing the weight! But as I got smaller I noticed more appearing! I was so upset! I don't know why this happened or how this happened.
I am seeing a weight loss doc/dietitican. And she also does laser stuff. So at my second visit I asked how much it would cost to remove some stretch marks. She just laughed at me and said if it was possible to remove stretch marks she would be a very rich women. I asked why other local docs. claim to be able to and she said they are all lying! Simply lying! I'm still courious but I'm sure she would be doing it if it was possible.
OK, i didn't answer your question at all. So I think adding muscle might be a reasonable answer. But loosing weight made mine worse so mabey your in that boat too. Or mabey a combo of the two did it. But what do I know, I'm just as confused as you are!

You just don't notice them when your bigger as the fat fills them out - stretch marks are where your skin has been stretched, they're always gonna be more noticiable when your body has been reduced.
Stretch marks can happen any time, anywhere!
Seriously, they are a nuisance, but it's not the end of the world. Stretch marks just occur when the collagen of your skin is stretched too far. You probably had them before and just didn't notice.
If you are young and your body is still producing collagen, it's quite possible they will heal over time. If not...sorry!
I've noticed an improvement in mine with the use of St. Ives Collagen Elastin lotion. Keeping the skin moisturized will only help it heal up faster if it's going to.

I agree with the didn't notice them theory... I think when they are all stretched out they are a little lighter in color, and as you get smaller and they are less stretched out they are a little redder and noticeable.
But I've heard pregnant women swear by Palmers Cocoa Butter lotion to reduce the appearance. There is nothing that takes them away forever, but we can all try to reduce the appearance :) And really try to not get any more :)

My understanding is that once you have stretch marks, you have them forever (unless those lotions really do work!). When they are white it means they are old; reddish ones are new. So I'd get really pissed if I saw a red one, but there's nothing you can do about the ones you already have. I have a male coworker who bulked up his chest and upper arms a few years ago (with muscle) but now he has stretch marks around his armpits because the muscle gain was so fast. Guess it happens to everyone.
I have had stretch marks for years since I wa a teen on my boobs and upper thighs. They do fade over time but are there forever, I do know that a tan makes them less noticable. You can barely see the ones on my upper thighs anymore. Same with the ones on my boobs. I got mine when I lost a lot of weight rapidly or either they were there and didn't notice.
Stretch marks stink, but i have resigned to having them My belly is the worst When I was pregnant they split open and bled. I have found that mederma has faded them, but the puckers (I dont know what else to call them) are still there. My kids think my stomach looks like bread dough and think its fun to poke. Thank goodness I have a sense of humor. Mabey they will look better if I lose weight and tone the area. I guess theres always a tummy tuck to get rid of some of them.
I heard, a sort of 'friend of a friend' or 'urban woman legend' that you can get them tattooed over with the permanant makup tattoos.
Does anyone know anything about this? It seems like it would be hard to match skintone, but anyone who isnt shy of a little ink might be able to hide their streach marks with it.
