Strength Training to Get Rid of Belly Fat?

Quote  |  Reply

I guess I'm what you would call skinny fat. All my flab and fat is in my stomach. I've been doing a bit of reading, and apparently, strength training could help with this? I have no idea what kind of strength training to do though. It would have to be at home, so only using my own body kind of thing, but I do have a few weights. Oh, and I am a girl.

Does anyone have any helpful links, or could someone just tell me what I should be doing?

Alexandra,

At the top of the fitness forum there is a read this first post by Melkor.  It will give you some great ideas.  I have been doing the New Rules of Lifting for Women (NROLFW) and I love that one because it was good for me as a beginner.  I had never worked with weights before but I love it and have seen many positive changes in my body composition.

One exercise that my wife  and I do is a standing reverse crunch. We do this on a cable machine. We set the cable at its maximum height and add some weight to it. Stand facing away from the machine with the handles at the sides of your face, now bend over like your touching your toes. You can do this too to excercise your entire stomach by doing some side bends. Add weight as is comfortable for you. I usuall do at least 200 - 300 of these in my workout and my wife does 50 - 100. Hope this help out.
