My strength training routine is driving me to tears
I've been following the same routine for like 6 weeks now, twice a week. I'm getting more toned and stronger but its driving me nuts now - I do it to music or whilst watching telly but I'm getting SO bored, especially now I'm doing more reps so its taking longer.
I'm worried about changing my routine incase I lose the benefits I've gained in the muscles I've been working it out but I have a short attention span and its getting so boring now.
Also wouldn't know what routine to do - I follow the one that came with my weights.
Any suggestions? :) thanks
I also run 3 times a week, I don't get bored doing that as I take my dog and I can vary my route.
The best routine is the one that you aren't doing, especially if your current routine is boring!
If you go into the Fitness FAQ at the top of this forum, there is Melkor's list of lifting routines - chose one from there.
Yeah, without anything more specific to go on like a sports-specific goal or body composition goals with a defined starting point, just pick anything from the
List of weight training programs that looks appealing. Well, the New rules of Lifting comes with a built-in support group right here on CC, but anything at all that follows the general rule of "lift something relatively heavy using a reasonable set/rep scheme that avoids over-and under-training, be consistent, and learn how to eat for your goals" will work.

What exactly are you doing?
Go ahead and read up on what A-girl and Melkor posted about.
How long is the present workout taking you?
BTW.. You mentioned uping the reps...what about upping the weight/lowering the reps...that equals better results and less time.
Thanks I'll have a look :D
Erm I'm following just a workout that came with my set of weights - a combination of things working legs, arms, abs and sides but I think I want to focus more on legs and abs as my arms are pretty toned anyway (I have horses so mucking out and riding = strong, toned arms), not sure exactly whats in it off by heart and don't have the leaflet with me but :P
its taking 30 - 40 minutes depending how long I have breaks for in between, thats ok, I think tis just the repetition I'm wanting to kill myself about lol.
I can't up the weight unless I buy more weights as I'm already using the heaviest ones of the 3 sets I've got.
Thanks guys, I'll make up a new workout from those moves, time for a change I think!
What is your current routine. You want to switch it up every 6 weeks. Change your routine. Change the muscle groups you are working. Do you have an MP3 player? If not get one. I workout 6 days a week. 1 hour of cardio a day, lifting 3 days a week and other strengthening work 5 days a week. Without an MP3 player I would be crazy. I change the music often or you can do books on tape. Something to focus on while you are working.
Lift hard and heavy.
