I'm back after months of starting my 'new lifestyle' in May of 07. I did lose a good 10-12 pounds last summer and I know even though 10 pounds isnt alot, but you could definally tell. Well a few days from now was my deadline for me to be down from 190(where I started in may 07) to 121...that's not the case, I'm now at 186.

I"m getting back really strict with myself, these past 2 weeks I've been working out hard and I stoped drinking pop and started drinking more water...now my weight hasnt really changed from when I weighed myself 2 weeks ago, but I can see a change in my waist line and my lower back and butt, which I have been working on. I dont think I'm going to really try and count calories...but I'm going to be restrictive...but I still let myself have ice cream every once in a while.

It sounds like you suffer from "all of nothing" dieting mentality. I find that being too strict leads to binges and failure. And for the first time in my life I've actually stuck to a healthier eating and exercise lifestyle because I don't deprive myself. I eat mainly whole foods, like: whole grains, lean meat/fish, fruit, veggies, dairy products, good fats and I leave about 10% of my calories open everyday for treats and sweets. On top of that I take a free day every 2 weeks or on holidays to eat anything I want, then I get right back on schedule the day after. I've lost nearly 80 lbs doing it this way since last June.

Losing weight and keeping it off is a balancing act, not an exact science. There will be ups and downs, but as long as you're making good decisions most of the time, splurging now and then isn't going to cancel that out. Remember, what you eat in one day or one meal doesn't matter nearly as much as what you eat over the entire week. Strive for balance, not perfection. If you have an off day, who cares? It's probably good for you! Just start where you left off the next day. And be patient. This really is for life and you still have to maintain the loss once you get there, so do it in a way that you can keep up with today and 50 years from now.

Good luck!!

being strict is what works for me, trying to balance things out and not be so tough is how I feel off track the last time.
