How to strip dark brown with red undertones out of hair

Quote  |  Reply

I have light brown hair and it was dyed a dark chocolate brown with red undertones back in August. I haven't touched it since and my roots are showing. Any ideas on how to get the dye out without having to wait forever for my hair to grow out? I want to go back to my natural color.

If you used permanent dye it won't come out. You could try dying back to your natural color, but it's pretty difficult to figure out the exact shade of your natural color because your roots tend to be a little darker than the rest of your hair, and your roots are all you have to go by when deciding what your natural color is...

Go to a salon.

Thanks toastyocie

I did something similar once too and dyed my light brown hair black.  When I attempted to strip my hair myself I ended up looking like a calico cat.  Not good.  Definitely go to a professional and just know that the most they can strip your hair without it falling out is to take it to a pumpkin-like color.  Then they'll put a light brown dye back over it to come close to matching your natural color.  Red is the hardest color to strip, so you'll likely still have some red undertones to your brown, but mine ended up a lovely subtle light auburn, so it worked out. :)  Good luck!

LADIES!!!!!! leave the hair dying to the professionals! dye is harsh for your hair and when you do it yourself it rarely works. go to the salon and let 'em know what you want and they'll make it happen to you. But please, stay away from home box stuff. I speak from experience. tragic experience. having patchy streaky hair is not good. I just had my colorists cover up an at home job and match my natural color and then put blue streaks in. She scolded me for straying and havin a friend with a $15 box substitute for the real thing.
