Getting stronger but not cut

Quote  |  Reply

I have been working out consistently for over a year, lifting about 4 days a week and doing cardio 4-5 days a week.  I notice that I am getting stronger, but I'm not getting the definition that I want.  My biceps went up .5 inches each but they just look bigger and not cut!  How do I achieve the lean, muscular, cut look?  My routine switches up a lot, but I usually do 2 body parts a day and legs by themselves. I have protein shakes before and after my workout.  I eat pretty clean (with the exception of Saturdays b/c it's my cheat), drink a ton of water... What do I need to change?

Only way to look more cut is to reduce body fat :).

Right - but what do I change now to do that?!

Eat less calories than you burn in a day, and you'll lose fat.  Of course, you'll likely stop gaining muscle too, while you're doing that, but that's the price you pay.

Bodybuilders often go through a bulk/cut process, where they bulk up on muscles by eating a bunch, and then cut weight by dieting and cardio.  That's what you're looking at.

Up your cardio, lower your caloric intake. Basically create a calorie deficit (more calories burned than consumed) as pbear999 said. And make sure to keep your protein intake high!
