Who doesn't at one point or another?  I've always had problems with eating breakfast, with problems such as eating something and feeling sick for 3 hours, no time to eat, convenient yet horrible for you, or convenient yet too sugary, i just can't find a good breakfast.

For a few weeks I was eating Clif Bars + a diet coke (can't STAND coffee) for a little morning jolt but when I realized by the end of the day i had eaten 190% of my DV of sugar I was freaked out.  I don't want 190% of ANYTHING in a day unless it's money.

I don't like big breakfasts because I ride 6.5 miles on my bike to work and the last thing I want is to feel weighed down, if I eat when I get to work my choices are Mc Donalds or Potbelly which are a big no no, and it's tough to pack a breakfast to eat at my desk with having my work clothes in my backpack and anything i'll need that day at work.

I love love love eggs, i'm thinking of eating an egg on toast before I head out but the one thing I love more than eggs is fruit.  Apples / Bananas / Grapes / Strawberries, you name it I can't get enough of it.

What are some breakfasts that you've found that are on the go friendly while not being too filling, but holding you over energy wise as well as calorie wise?

Usually I don't have time to eat a good breakfast so I usually eat two Fiber One bars, a piece of fruit, and drink a cup of coffee. It's not too filling, but I have enough energy until I eat again.

every morning i have some variation of this

1/3 cup of egg beaters/all whites or 3 hard boiled egg whites

either an english muffin or bowl of cereal or oatmeal or toast as a good healthy carb

1 cup or so of fruit, either pineapple, cantaloupe cherries strawberries etc

comes to about 300 calories every morning

and i'm not hungry until lunch

but i always snack around 10 anyway to keep my metabolism going

scrambled eggs!!  Light but you know you ate and it won't weigh you down at all!    Then you can add a piece of fruit if you want to!  Your egg and toast idea is a really great breakfast... but the toast is what may make you feel full.

One slice of turkey bacon and scrambled eggs is my favorite light breakfast.  I just leave one of the yolks out (using two eggs) and add a little 1% milk and a touch of msg free seasoning salt!

toasted lite multigrain english muffin with PB or jelly and coffee and water :)

I try to have something high in fibre (rolled oats, wheatabix, muselix) with some fresh berries or wholegrain yogurt with berries.

I'd also go with scrambled eggs and maybe a slice of wholegrain toast.  (Eggwhites on their own are just bland and disgusting).  Then you could take a couple of pieces of fruit in your pocket to enjoy after the bike-ride and give you a bit of energy.

Fruit smoothies are another good one.  Blend your own combinations of yoghurt, juice and various fruits and sprinkle in some toasted oats or similar for a bit of 'body'.
If you love eggs, they are an excellent choice.  I prefer them on an whole grain enlish muffin w/ a slice of ham and yolk still runny.  A less messy way is to scramble and add veggies, hot sauce, pepper, oz of low fat cheese and role up in a whole wheat wrap and put a peice of fruit in your bag for when you arrive at work.  Keep in mind that balance is important for sustaining energy so get your protein, carbs and fat in before you ride!  Peanut butter w/ slices of banana on an english muffin is quite good too!

obviously i'm pretty new to this website but i'm looking at my analysis after having a "fruit heavy" day which typically includes a banana and an apple, along with what i'd normally eat and it's not uncommon to see my sugar % be over 200%!

I know if that was 200% with like candy and fruit snacks it'd be a bad thing but honestly, if i get 120% of my DV of sugar from fruits and the other 80% through what i'd normally eat, is it all that bad?

If you're getting that much sugar... even if a lot of it is from fruit... then it just means your diet is probably out of balance.  You can have too much of a good thing.  Ideally, you'd keep in the fruit you're eating and cut out as much of the other sugary foods as possible.

If I'm in a rush, I ususally down a protien smoothie on the way out the door.

bruce_fort, I used to have this exact same problem when I used to ride my bike to work.

I would eat some toast/ english muffin with yogurt or peanut butter and a sliced apple on it before I left.  Then, take grapes/ carrots/ oranges/grapefuit/banana (usually 2 fruits) and a sweet potato or ziploc of oatmeal.  I would microwave the sweet potato or oatmeal at work and kept some condiments (cinnamon, etc) and add ons at the office.

Something I have found very yummy and not too filling is an egg sandwhich. I use a 1/4 c egg beaters and 2 slices of lite wheat bread. Its less than 200 cal for the whole thing.

You could try cereal or a fruit smoothie or even just a glass of milk or soy milk. I'd steer clear of soda in the morning. Try to drink orange juice or water.

Eggs on scambled toast with a some fruit is a good breakfast and never weights me down.  Oatmeal is a good breakfast, I am not a big oatmeal fan and found this recipe and it eat it more often now.  Peach oatmeal I quite often double it or have it with something because it is pretty low cal, more fruit or toast with something on it.

how about a quiche? there are several variations and it's light.

Consider getting up 15 minutes earlier and make eggs & toast.  I recently purchased a microwave egg poacher to make my breakfast prep a lot quicker.  You can "cook" eggs and toast in less than 5 minutes.  It only takes about 45 seconds to cook eggs in the microwave egg poacher and there is no added fat.  Invest a few minutes in breakfast and it will pay you back.

I love breakfast! Favorite meal of the day!

I make my husband and egg sandwich every morning with 2 eggs, 1 slice american cheese and 2 whole wheat toast. I wrap it in foil so it stays hot and keeps the flavors kept together.
