Hey guys,, I recently got a new meal plan and it increased my carb consumption by quite a bit. The thing is: I find all my carbs are bread, english muffins, rice and potatos. Does anyone know any other, more exiting carbs I could eat? And ones that won't freak me out too much because carbs still kinda scare me when I have too much!
Thanks:)♥
Oatmeal
Fruits especially bananas + apples
Orange Juice
Broccoli
Quinoa
Couscous
Pilaf
Tortillas
Beans
Pasta
Buckwheat
Bulgar
Oat Bran
Pita Bread
Well it really depends on what do you like to eat?
For breakfast you could have toast, cereal ( lots out there weetabix, shredded wheat, oats, fruit n fibre, lots to chose from), bagel spread with something, toasted muffins, pancakes, fruit.
For lunch: If your going the sandwich route theres the usual bread or else you could try tortilla wraps or pitta bread for a change. Maybe some days make yourself a pasta style lunch with pasta, chicken ( if your not vegetarian), vegetables, dressing and cheese. You can change that about by using different grains such as cous cous, rice, quinoa, buckwheat.
Dinner: Again you have your pastas and the grains mentioned above or you could try instead of ordinary potatoes maybe a sweet potato?
If carbs scare you then just make little changes here and there to start with like some day try a wrap instead of a sandwich then the next have cous cous instead of your rice and work your way up.
Hi marissa!
carbs scared me too for so long, i dint eat bread for years, how sad, rt??!!
well let me tell you, they are great!! carbs are your body's source of energy, think of that! and they taste great! i eat bagels w/PB almost every day, yes, even AFTER ive gained my weight i can still eat laods of carbs lol.
sandwiches, bagels, muffins, rice, cereal, whatever YOU want, have it.
calroies in/calories out, doenst matter if its bread or yogurt, have what YOU want!!
I love oatmeal and bananas.
Fruits too are nice simple carbs that are easy to digest.
Veggies and legumes have good carbs too :)
I don't know if this suggestion will fall under the category of "carbs that freak you out too much", but I'll throw it out there anyway!
Popcorn! Namely- kettle corn, my personal choice. It's delish, and really quite healthy for you! The down side: it can be rather filling (lots of bulk). I've found that I often don't have room for it, sad:(
have you tried millet??
it is great, and high in iron. you can get puffed millet. it is like rice crispies, only with millet. i like it because it is gluten free and i don't feel deprived or like i am carb loading!
I second the popcorn too! airpopped is great, you can flavor it any way you like, and it counts as a whole grain.
Thanks guys! All your reply's were great! :]
Hmmm; fruit and popcorn eh? I never knew fruit could count as a carb!? Should I maybe ask my nutritionist before I start useing it as one?
And how much popcorn is 1 serving?

Marissa-fruit would not count as a carb for these purposes and popcorn is very low calorie but will fill u up making it harder to eat more, more dense foods, and inturn gain weight+get healthy. try sandwiches w/delic fillings, fresh pancakes/waffles w/fun fillings+toppings, granola, pasta, the list is endless!
try and remember what u used to LIKE to eat, eat what you WANT!!
Here are some:
whole vegetables (carrot, corn, peas, broccoli, etc.), most whole fresh fruits (bananas, apples, oranges, etc.), beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, whole cereal grains, oatmeal, granola, jams/jellies, bagels, muffins, croissants, waffles, pancakes, crackers (saltine, graham, etc.), tortillas/wraps, pita bread, submarine rolls, noodles, whole wheat pasta/spaghetti, tomato sauce, milk (regular, almond, soy, whatever you perfer), fruit juice (orange, apple, etc.), etc.
The list is endless and can just keep going on. Find a variety of different carbs that suit you best and stick with the ones you enjoy most.
100% natural grape juice. I find that this is the best substance for including carbs seeing as its concentrated in carbs (about 50 grams per serving), which you could have on the side of a plate of sphagetti or even cereal with milk, which would bring that meal in itself to about 100 grams of carbohydrates.
On the go andin the know.
