I am Stuck!!Help?

Quote  |  Reply

I have lost 60 lbs since March 2007,most of it in the first year.I have been doing the same things although changing it up somewhat. In the last 8 months I have only lost about 7 pounds.I am starting to get frustrated seriously frustrated.I still want to lose about 30-35 more pounds,I am currently at 155,I am 5'2" and I am 35 years old.

Is this a LONGGGGGG plateau? Does anyone have any suggestions to jump start and get back to losing a bit faster again?I even debated getting diet pills! And I know that's not the way to go.I do feel so much better about myself and feel healthier.I eat about 1100-1500 calories per day.I am not an exercise diva,in fact the only thing I do is dance 20-30 minutes 3 days a week, and use my exercise ball daily for 20 minutes.I need some kind of motivation to do more of that too.Something fun and healthy?

Any suggestions to help me get back on track would be greatly appreciated.

If you've been on 1100-1500 per day for 18 months then your problem is most likely a slowed metabolism.   It's the bane of the long-term dieter.   But well done losing 60lbs so far - that's terrific.   The 'fun and healthy' thing to do would be to eat more for a while.  In your case, about 1900 cals a day would probably do the trick.  You might regain a pound or two in the process but some people find that upping the cals temporarily gets the pounds coming off... bonus!

After your week or two on 1900 then go back to fewer calories and try to stick with 1300-1500 as your average.   No lower than 1200.   Make sure you accurately weigh your portions and keep your food diary because it's easy to eat more than you think otherwise.   Then get the recipe books out and try different recipes and new fresh foods because changing your food choices can help a lot.  And the same for exercise.... find other ways to be active.   You could get a bicycle, for example, and go for a bike-ride on the days when you're not dancing.  Another really simple technique is to get a pedometer and aim for 10,000 steps a day.

Every 2 weeks have a 1900 cal day to keep the momentum going.  Keep it interesting and you may have more success.  Best of luck
