Still. stuck. And it sucks!

Hello everyone,

I posted here before about reaching a horrible stupid annoying plateau.  After thinking about it and listening to the helpful feedback I got from here, I started eating more to account for my highish activity level.  I've done that for about three weeks and still, nada.  I am the same weight.  Guhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

As a refresher, I work out about 6 days a week, usually burning 500 calories per workout.  I also do yoga twice a week (for an hour and half...but it's just beginner, still falling over during the balance poses yoga) and sometimes throw some horseback riding in there.  I've been eating about 1,900 calories a day (I'm 5'10"...and a girl).  Should I do less intense workouts and eat less accordingly?  Should I find a genie and make him grant my weight loss wish????

Anyone out there who's kicked the royal crap out of a plateau??  Help?

Hey there, I read your other post just to get some background, and it sounds like you are at a very healthy weight.  What is your goal weight?

I think the 1900 sounds about right for weight loss without being totally starving.. I wouldn't go any higher if I were you unless you had a realllly intense workout that day.

What kind of workouts are you doing other than yoga?  I have found the best way to rev up my metabolism has been weight training.  Are you doing anything with weights?  This is a great way to increase muscle mass / increase your resting metabolic rate.  Droning away on the elliptical machine staring at a tv just doesn't do it for me.

Also, have you been tracking inches or just pounds?  For me, when I got into yoga, I didn't see a change on the scale but after a couple months of 2-3 classes a week my friends were all telling me I looked thinner / leaner.  You might want to start tracking inches so you can understand how your body shape itself is benefiting from what you're doing...

Hope this helps!

Thanks for responding! My goal weight is basically 150...or whatever gets me into the next smallest size of pants (how superficial am I?)  I really just have like 7 more pounds to go!  Rah!  I have added weight training--been doing that for about a month.  I haven't been tracking inches but I do know that all of my pants fit the same.

I hit a plateau getting rid of the last 10 lbs of my baby fat.  I'm not sure which one did the trick or if it was both, but I took off the BC patch and worked out twice a day instead of once for a couple weeks.  (the second workout was almost always cardio, occasionally abs)

When faced with a wickedly awful plateau like that I do one thing that always makes me lose again...

I binge eat. Screw the calories for a day and eat what the hell you want. Then just go back to your regularly scheduled program. If you gain half a pound back or something, just relax and drink tons of water. The new fat melts off faster than old fat and tends to take some with it.

I'm totally serious. Just have a day where you eat whatever the hell you want, from Twinkies to mom's deep friend turkey, to cobb salad or german chocolate cake. It's your day. Then just go back to normal and the fat will go away.

Works for me and my friends.

I agree with samismilexx!!!!  I do the same thing and it works to get the body on working on something different.  Gotta trick it once in a while!

Good Luck!

Wait one more week- a month-long plateau ended for me after that time.

I have a question about the day of stuffing your face--how often do you guys do this? How long does it take to see the results from it?  Do you work out on these days or just say screw it allll?

I used to eat way less than I should have been, so over the holidays when I went home and ate all that wonderful food, I dropped 2 pounds...that explains that!

Thanks!

Hey broccolibundles!

I've heard that sometimes when we hit a plateau it's because our activities are just the "same old, same old". Try some cross-training and see if that will make the scale budge. You know, instead of horseback riding, go bike riding. Maybe instead of the yoga do step aerobics one day and pilates on another day. Just do something that shakes up the routine a bit. Also, swimming is great exercise that works every muscle group, so if you have access to a pool, that might be a good option for you. I'm not saying give up the yoga and the horseback riding completely, just add a little more variety to your workouts, and see if that does the trick for you.

That's just my 2 cents. I hope you find the answer you're looking for, and will let us know when the plateau ends!
