study foods!!!!!
Its finals time again and there is no study break quite like going to burgerville or taco bell. what are some good, tasty snack foods to keep around so that I'm not tempted?
carrots, pickles, fresh mushrooms, golean cereal, yogurt, celery, and finally, its only one week of finals, let yourself study and be reasonable. If you keep yourself well fed with nutritious food, you will be less likely to chow down. Get a reasonable amount of sleep and remember, one does not remember well when tired or hungry.
baby carrots, cherry tomatoes, frozen berries, frozen pineapple, celery, cucumber, baby spinach, apple slices, oranges, air-popped popcorn, frozen yogurt. basically anything that takes you a long time to eat, fills you and is crunchy/munchy. also, don't snack on ANYTHING high-cal like nuts, pretzels, or cereal because it doesn't take much to overeat and then you end up accidentally eating like 600 calories.
also, if you wanna go out and eat to clear your head, go to subway. they've got great healthy choices and salads too.
A life-time student, myself... I've survived MANY weeks of finals and have learned that one week out of the semester, stress is high, and so are food needs.
Okay, so avoid sugar-things... they will cause your thinking to be unpredictable (which is NOT what you need). Make some foods in advance (rice and chicken casserole, with veggies... meatloaf, with veggies..... ) make comfort foods that SOUND GOOD to you, but that are high in protein, filling and full of vegetables. Eat when you need to (otherwise food will be a distraction).
Another yummy (and not diet friendly, but GREAT during finals) snack is to have queso (use low fat velveeta) with salsa or rotel, your favorite vegetarian chili (I'd add sauteed onions or bell peppers if I had the time) and tortilla chips (baked if you like them). I would eat that for lunch or dinner during finals week.... VERY satisfying! Type the recipe in the recipe tool, and find out how much each serving would be - nutrition-wise..... if you're willing to be aware, it's a really satisfying snack while studying... and doesn't have the same effects that pizza or sugar snacks have.
Finish well with your finals!
and im doing soo horribly food-wise. i just sit here all day... and try to study... and I just eat and eat and eat.
Doesnt help that my mom gave me several bags of cookies to take to school -- she said I need to 'treat' myself for all my hard studying.
So Ive eaten wayy too many cookies. And eating at school.... yeah, when is that ever healthy!!
My roomate and I do try to eat a lot fruits though....
so these arent particularly healthy, but now that ive started studying, i nosh on Florida's Natural Sour Fruit string
its 50 calories per fruit string
and i have to be honest and tell you its way closer to candy than fruit
but they're UBER chewy and sticky and i can spend 10 minutes on one
byt the time ive had two, i really dont want to chew anything anymore and the sour-sweetness has satisfied my buds for the time being
and there's 40% vitaminC in each one for good measure :]
I am having the same problem at the moment with so many deadlines in. As i sit here my advent calender is right next to me full of chocolate, i am so tempted ot eat it all now!!
Is there anything that you could eat that would perhaps promote your brain power as well as fulfill your snack craving? I heard that omega 3's are very good for brain power, but you cant really snack on a salmon fillet can you
Besides that, carrots, pomegranate (though be careful of this near notes), baked Cheetos (34 for 1 serving!), mushrooms, cucumber slices, and peppers.
Good luck!
Good snacky brain food that I like is a leaf of butter lettuce wrapped around some tuna salad. I like to put celery and minced onion in my tuna salad and use low-fat mayo. You can eat it with one hand, too, so you can keep the other on the pencil!
You can buy those vacuum-packed pre-seasoned salmon and tuna in the canned tuna aisle. You just open the ziplock bag and it's ready to go! Sometimes I just eat it straight from the package.
A whole grain bagel with hummus is good too, or veggie sticks dipped in hummus. If you're concerned about fat you can make your own and just use a little water to puree it instead of olive oil. I can whip up a bowl of hummus in less than five minutes.
Good luck!
