i like tuna fish. but you can probably put turkey salad in it too.

Iv been thinking about buying some.

Hmmm, pitas are so cool for stuffing:

any kind of salad is great in a pita!

No special way to prepare, just slice along one edge and gently open it.

I've even made my own. The secret to getting a home cooked pita hollow is to bake it in a really hot oven and it puffs up! That's what makes it hollow.

My favorite stuffed pita would be lettuce, cucumbers, tomato, avocado slices, a sprinkling of extra sharp cheddar cheese, then drizzling a tablespoon of ranch dressing over it or maybe olive oil/apple cider vinegar.

I always toast my pitas when I eat them.

As for stuffings, I love peanut butter, hummus, garden burgers, or egg beaters.

Yum. Now I want one =P.
My favorite way to eat pita is to stuff it with some roasted red pepper hummus, lettuce, yellow peppers, grilled onions, and a couple of ounces of grilled chicken or turkey.  YUMMY!  I had that for lunch AND dinner today!  Very filling too.
Oh i love pita bread! my mum used to make it all the time when i was a kid.
They are best when fresh out of the oven!
If you have a microwave, nuke it for 10 seconds.
I think it just loosens it up again.
I brought some wraps the other day which said to nuke for 10-20 seconds and they were WAY yummier after i nuked them.
It's like it makes them fresher in some strange way.
Maybe it's the steam.

Well, anyway.
My all-time-favourite is butter and vegemite on a hot pita pocket!
Then the butter melts and it runs everywhere and if you get a crunchie one that cooked for a little too long then its even better! lol.

Salad fillings? anything really.
Mayo and slices of tomato, thats delicious.
Add some salt and black pepper if you like :) maybe some onion.
Ooo thin slices of red onion...
Subtle, not as hot as brown onions.
Hmm i'm stuffed from dinner, but pita pockets sound delicious now lol.
Anything you can put in a salad or on a sandwich, you can put in a pita.  My favorites are:

Chicken salad
Egg salad
Hummus, tomato, and feta
Spinach, hummus, and feta
Peanut butter and jelly (my favorite)
Peanut butter and apple
Peanut butter and banana

Really, the possibilities are endless.
All those above are pretty good but my fav is "pizza pita" - tomato paste/puree, some herbs, bits of pineapple, bits of 97% ff shaved ham chopped up and either cottage cheese or low fat cheese if you can afford it, nice and hot. Mmm its seriously like pizza! And you can make it pretty low cal
Hmmm, never thought cottage cheese for a pizza cheese, maybe mixed into the pizza sauce, would add some extra protein all right.
I love Scrambled egg and a bit of onion in a toasted pita

Tuna, mayo, Cheese and Lettuce

Chicken Fajita just in a pita

I actually don't know much about pita other than that I like it :) Is it a good low-cal option or something?  Just curious about the nutrition aspect, because pita pockets it seem like a staple for a lot of you (and sound delicious).

Mmm...I love pita pizzas.  I've moved 8 hours away from my very favorite pizza place, but I've learned to make a healthy homemade version of their best pie, so I almost don't mind being so far away anymore.  First off, I spread minced garlic instead of sauce (Umm...you might not want to make these on a day when you have to talk to people a lot, since the garlic breath is awful).  Then I spread baby spinach leaves that I've torn up, a tiny bit of mozzarella cheese, a tiny bit of feta (more feta than mozzarella, just because I like the saltier flavor better), slices of tomato, onion slices, and black olives (about 3, sliced).  No idea how many calories are in it, but it can't be too awful for you so long as you go easy on the cheese and use whole wheat pitas.

Another one I like to make uses a red pepper pasta sauce, mozzarella, sliced red & yellow peppers, sliced red onion, a couple sliced kalamata olives, and fresh basil.

I also stuff pitas with tuna salad, or warm them up in the oven, cut them into wedges, and use them to scoop (paprika-dusted) hummus.

Whenever I try to stuff my pita, it always seems to tear. =/

Toasting pitas makes them sooo much better, don't know why. My favorite is egg whites nuked in the micro, and scrambled with swiss cheese, steamed mushrooms & spinach in a toasted whole wheat pita. Any typical sandwich fillings should work too.

Mm some pitas are very delicate, so best to cut and open them a little on the day you buy them I find, as they are softest, then seal and store in a cool place
Mm that does sound nice. TH \e good thing about pitas is your filling doesnt fall out the bottom!@
I wish it wasnt so tough to find good quality whole grain pitas.

I like this great yogurt mix. It is Greek and I usually do not spell it right.  So take this as ebonics and sound it out...   Ta-Zee-Key.   It can be fatty if made with the traditional recipes for it, but some experimenting with cheese cloth and patience and a low fat yogurt can work.

Then comes the black olives, tomatos, cucumbers, lettuce... Go Greek!  Add whatever you would to a great Greek salad ~ Lost Artist
.
Lost Artist, I think you're talking about tzatziki, which I loooove.  It's basically yogurt with cucumber, garlic, and dill.  So good!

Ooh, I love pitas!  I put hummus, tahini, lettuce, tomato and, if I can allow it, some falafel.  Delicious!  Or just hummus, cucumber and tomato if I want something light.  Lately, I've been eating them with hummus, a 1oz piece of deli cheese (havarti dill is delicious!), romaine lettuce and cherry tomatoes!

As you can tell, I love hummus!

I also love pita pizzas ... Newman's Own Sockarooni sauce is so delicious and spicy and you don't need much of it for a pita.  I'm a vegetarian so I wouldn't know how but I know people who make all kinds of things with chicken ... like a grilled chicken ceasar salad in a pita.  Even though a serving of the whole wheat pitas I like are really half a pita, they are surprisingly filling!

i cut it in half, stick it in the toaster. when i take it out, i stick the salt shaker or another herb container in it to keep it open while it cools and i finish prepping my fillings.

also, they're great to freeze to keep them fresh. cut in half first, stick in freezer, then put straight in the toaster when you want to use.

so i see some recipes for pita pizza? do u guys put the ingredients on top of the pita? or inside?
Pepperoni and Parmesan Pitta Pizzas

Makes 4
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
287 calories per pizza
Ingredients

  • 4 white pitta breads
  • 400g tin chopped tomatoes with herbs
  • 2 pinches of caster sugar
  • 2 pinches of hot chilli powder
  • 2 sundried tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 4 thin slices of pepperoni, shredded into strips
  • 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 small yellow pepper, thinly sliced
  • 8 green olives, pitted and halved
  • 5g freshly grated parmesan
  • 30g ricotta cheese
  • A small handful of shredded basil leaves
  • A handful of wild rocket leaves
  • Balsamic vinegar

  • How to make pepperoni and parmesan pitta pizzas Preheat a conventional oven to 220ºC or a fan-assisted one to 200ºC. Run a sharp knife 1cm in from the edge of each pitta bread and follow the outline to remove the top layer of bread and create a border for the pizzas.

Place the pittas directly onto the top shelf of the oven and cook for two minutes to crisp up.

Meanwhile, place the chopped tomatoes in a sieve to remove all the excess juice. Divide the tomatoes among the pittas and spread out evenly.

Sprinkle each with the sugar and chilli powder. Top with the sundried tomatoes, pepperoni, red onion, pepper and olives. Sprinkle over the parmesan and dot the ricotta on top.

Bake the pittas directly on the oven shelf for eight minutes or until cooked. Serve immediately, scattered with the basil and rocket leaves and drizzled with balsamic vinegar.

    :-)
