Stupid Chocolate cupcakes

Quote  |  Reply
I have been doing really well lately. I've been watching my calories and working out, but I can't lose any weight. The problem? Those chocolate cupcakes with the icing inside. Ohh, And poptarts.

The thing is I have no desire to eat them until after dinner.  I am already stuffed from my healthy meals, but for some reason I can't stop myself from pigging out on the pop tarts and cake. Its like I know I shouldn't but I eat them anyway. And I can't stop at just one. and I can't choose one or the other it is like a nightly binge I have no control over, at least it feels that way.

I really need a kick in the (you know what.) Please help. I  can't just not buy them or throw them out because I live with parents and I don't have a job (student fully time)

Please help with alternatives or help put this in perspective for me. I have tried on my own, and I am failing miserably. I am desperate.  (I eat 1500 cals before the snacks, and I burn about 2000 or so)

ask your folks not to buy them anymore.  maybe you have a wierd thing like me about needing to chew something at night after dinner.  Try gum for a few days.  You will eventually be able to brake yourself of it. good luck!
I have a horrid sweet tooth that I have finally got a grip on...LOL...but when I first started dieting and joined the site I found some terrific chocolate cupcakes (they also have the cake version) and they were a life savor. They are Diet Cola Cupcakes (cake) recipe that really is VERY GOOD. Satisfied my sweet tooth without causing me to go over my calorie intake. I know I have tried to include the recipe links before and can't get them to work but if you go to recipes section and Just type in either Diet Cola Cake or Diet Cola cupcakes they should come right up.

is there any reason you can't ask your parents to not buy them?  or maybe buy the 100 calorie packs (of the cupcakes) and a poptart flavor you don't particularly like.  And ask them to put them someplace where you won't see them right away

The think is, you have to recognize what you are doing before you can stop it -- so, you know it's gonna happen after dinner -- well don't go back into the kitchen after dinner -- go for a walk, go to your room, go study -- but no going in the kitchen.

Put a rubberband on your wrist and when you see what you are doing -- snap it hard.  it's simple but effective.

I will try the gum. I once tried freezing some yogurt or fruit (because it takes long to eat it) and it helped for a bit but I always went back to eat again about an hour later.

My parents love those things, and I have made comments before of how I hate those things because I can't stop eating them. They don't get it and even ask me if I want one. If I say no, they tell me to split it with them, I mostly cave on the spot. And if I do stay strong, they keep asking and I finally cave in.

Another thing I get when I ask them not to buy them is "You don't have to eat them" or "Its a one time thing, enjoy it while we have it" or "the sooner you eat them the sooner they will be gone"

Its like they think my weight loss goal is just a phase. When I lost 15 lbs they were telling me I lost enough weight and I should eat more because I was getting too skinny, even though I was still overweight, by all clinical standards. I have gained 10lbs of that loss back and feel horrible for losing my control.

(I can't stay out of the kitchen completely, the kitchen is directly outside of my room, If I have to go to the bathroom or go to the living room or anything I have to pass through the dredded kitchen.) I try, but fail.
My family love busicuits, so i wrote on a sticker 'dont eat it if your not hungry' and put it on the buscuit tin.

It helps as i think twice about what i am about to do
mmmm . . . sugar rush.  Yes, I have been seduced by the white stuff also.  That's a rough situation. Try the gum, but also try diet pop (Yes, I know I will get reamed out for advising diet pop but . . . )

The gum and the sipping will keep your mouth busy and the carbonation will keep you full.  That's what I end up doing when i visit my parents.

Apply your willpower the second you start to think about pop tarts or cupcakes.  Just say no and keep saying no.  Even if you have to sit on your hands and sweat.  Even if they're eating those things right in front of you.  Even if you're starting to bleed because your fingernails are dug into the palms of your hands.  Yes, you may feel like a junkie going through withdrawal.  It can be that rough (been there, still doing it.)  But it's what you HAVE to do.

Oh my!! I'm in agreement I always crave toasted brown cinnamon sugar pop tarts!!! I used to eat them all the time for breakfast (although I didn't know they were 400 calories a pop and its not like I can only eat HALF the package!!) Why put two in a package if the serving is one!!! I hate that!

But anywho I'm in college and I'm still trying to find something to do with the two large boxes of Poptarts my parents gave me because I am a "starving college student" who does not want 400 calories before 10 am!!

I can not imagine living somewhere where people who loved me (knowing i struggle with my weight) would "say the sooner you eat them the sooner they will be gone" thats really a horrible thing to say, I mean my mom did this a bit and we have awful history of eating disorders in my family so she should keep her mouth shut but i would have lost my temper cause if you eat them...fast to they will just buy another box.  ug your family makes me angry,  i hope they can learn to be more supportive.  but good you have this web site for some support.  Dont go it all alone!
I have a suggestion, considering that your parents are saying such destructive things to you.

Take a couple into the bathroom when your parents aren't around (preferably before dinner, so you won't be tempted to eat them), crumble them into the toilet, and flush until all the bits are gone. If you get goo on your fingers, wipe it off with toilet paper and flush that too.

Repeat as needed until there are none left to tempt you.

When your parents ask, tell them you ate them all. Ask them not to buy more.
Listen to trustwomen! Yesterday I had a bunch of those mini dark chocolate bars and I could not stop eating them. SO! I took the last of em and threw them away! Stopped that craving right away!

Sounds like me. For me it's boredom i think. I dunno. I'm just trying to force my self to not eat anything between dinner and bed. Water is your friend :)
i love skinny cow ice cream sandwiches. they are only 150 calories and not very fattening and they even have fiber. because i know i am the type to not stop at one, i usually cut one in half, sit down and eat it and then when i can't take it anymore, i go back for the other half. even if you eat three halves, it's only 225 calories. they have all different flavors.
not sure if anyone mentioned this but try brushing your teeth every time you want some. You know how things just dont' taste as good right after you brush your teeth. Or just try to occupy your mind and hands with something (like playing video games - fun!) it's pretty hard to eat then & times flies by.

Good luck!
I can sure relate to you, except microwave Act II Butter Lover's Popcorn is my problem area. I was determined the day before yesterday to finish what was in the house and then not buy anymore, but yesterday, the craving was so bad, I went out and bought them anyway. Now I have a whole other box to finish up. Those bags are 385 calories per bag. Ugh! And I usually have two at a time.
thanks so much guys. I have been under so much stress with school.  I have decided that when I really need a cupcake, I will drink green tea. Its warm and filling when a (i wasn't hungry to begin with) craving comes.

The gum helped some. And I think I am cured of the choc cupcake thing. I ate a pepermint and then ate one of the cakes. UGGh, It almost made me puke. I hate the taste of mint and chocolate together. Now if I had the same thing for poptarts. lol.

Poptarts are easy...have something sour first and the the sweet will make you gag.  Mint could work also, but I'm thinking more like pickles.

chocolate is okay just eat it in moderation now as far as the cupcakes you could use a low fat recipe or make your own all natural homemade cupcakes these are better for you than the store bought ones
