Stupid food weighing question
Hi-
Ok, so I recently bought a food scale and have been weighing everything. What I want to know is when you weigh a piece of fruit that has a peel on it, are the calorie amounts listed on CC based on the fruit with the peel or without the peel? In other words, do I have to peel my bananas and oranges before I weigh them to properly measure calories? The obvious answer seems to be yes, but I just want to double check. Thanks!!
For oranges and banans I would say yes. It does get in to weird category if you start considering peel on stuff like apples and kiwis. :)

Thank you! I agree. Fun fact--I don't peel my kiwis anyway (don't ask--just the way I was raised!). Or apples for that matter, but it's not such a fun fact. Thanks again!!
Yep I don't peel kiwis and apples either. Specially in kiwis a lot of good stuff in the skin.

I have a couple kiwis in my fridge and the skin is not so appitizing. Apple skin is good. My mom always peeled the apples for us but as sshe was peeling id eat the skin. lol.
Melons are another good example of how to weigh it. I cut and weigh with the rind, then weigh after I've eaten the pulp, subtract from the original weight and enter that amount. I just ate what I would consider a medium apple, only once I weighed it in comparison to just using the small, medium or large measures, it would have been classified as a small.
Kiwi skins definitely do not look appetizing, but they are really good (I'm sure you don't believe me--lol!! It's ok...most people find it odd). I don't peel fruits and veggies unless I have to (I recently heard about a friend eating the skin of a mango--not sure I'm that adventurous!!). I don't eat my bananas at home during the week (I eat them in transit), so one of these weekends I'm going to have to weigh the banana without the peel to get a better idea of how much banana I am eating.
Good tip about the melons mommakitty!! And thanks everyone for the replies!
i think the fact that your even eating fruit is great, why weigh it is what i wanna know, weigh the food thats gonna actually make you gain weight .im sure your not (i hope) eating 10 Bananas in a sitting i never really hear of people getting fat off of fruit so give your self a break as long as its a snack, you should allow your self about 2 (depends on person) 100 cal or under snacks

I'm being really anal right now about weighing everything because I hurt my foot and am very limited in my exercise. I saw how easily the weight was creeping up after I hurt myself (I have been injured about 5 weeks), and I'm trying to limit that. Even though bananas are healthy, a calorie is still a calorie and I need to be careful right now. Trust me--I am not short-changing my calories by any stretch of the imagination (I eat about 1900 a day). Just trying not to gain weight while injured!!!
The cc is most likely based on the "norm". So for most people who eat apple they eat them with the peel. For oranges they are eaten without the peel. Kimi is generaly eaten with the rind on but some people eat them w/o it. Bananas of course eaten w/o peels. I've known people who peel their grapes but I don't consider that a norm. Just go by the "norm" and you should be fine.
