stupid new years resolution people!
Ugh! Every stinking year - they invade the gym. Can't stand it. I belong to a fairly big gym (at least 60 cardio machines) and every single one of them -except one- was taken tonight. Can't wait for them to leave again.
End Rant.
Hey, the people who join up in January, pay for a year and drop out after 3 weeks are the ones who're sponsoring your gym membership ;) If it wasn't for them, the gym you go to would have 1/3rd the equipment or be 3 times as expenisve, so be thankful for them :-P
OMG I know what you mean. I literally had NO spot in my gym class tonight, we had to keep the door to the classroom open because someone's mat was halfway out the door.
I know these people "pay for my membership", but its still annoying!
omg I hate january at the gym!!! I didn't go today because I realized how insane it would be and I would probably just get pissed and leave after 10 minutes. I need to remember to just get some workouts in at home. I have a bike trainer and some dumbells so I need to just maket eh best of it and wait a few weeks for people to give up!
hahaha I can totally relate with this and was thinking the same thing...I usually go on a 4 mile walking route everyday and am like one of the "regulars" on the route with a few others...but over the past few days there have been so many additional people...I'm all for a healthy lifestyle change...but it isn't sincere and is just too crowded...ugh
I have prepared for the January invasion this year. I have been trying some DVDs at home which keeps me far from the gym and on days that I do go I have been going at odd hours. I usually go at lunch or just after work, which would be a nightmare right now, so for example, yesterday I took a late lunch and went in a 2 PM. It was fine. Still more then normal, but machines and equipment were available.
Last year transitioning from 07-08 I felt the same way, I had been working out faithfully since about october then January hit and I was pissed, couldn't get to my machines. This year I am one of those people, But instead of working out on Monday (because it's usuallly packed whether it's january or not) I might try Sundays.
Last night when I went to the gym I could barely find a parking spot and then once I got to the weight lifting room it was almost impossible to try to go through my weight lifting routine without hitting someone next to me with my weight lol
It was really annoying because I had to cut my routine short because there was just too many people in the way and THEN atleast 3 trainers with new members came in to show them how to use the weights which made it even more crowded.
*sigh* I wish I had a couple thousand dollars so I could have my own at-home gym :(
Yeah, I felt the same way at the gym last night. It was pretty crowded and most of the weight machines I wanted to use were occupied by people just sitting there, reading, not even using them! I guess they were resting between sets or something...so annoying. Just get up for that couple of minutes and let someone else have a chance! ![]()
I'm trying to be patient, however, as I started going to the gym last January and was one of the new people then, I guess we all were at some point.
Yes, it can be a pain, but I try to remember how hard it was for me to get back in the swing of things and that makes me encourage the newbies. Also, our gym posted its busiest times once and I always keep that in mind. I know for my gym, users peak on Mondays and decrease throughout the week. I love Friday evenings--no one is there!
i go to a tiny little gym thats a part of the city recreation center for my neighborhood. there were some new people and i kind of laughed to myself, but then i realized just how mean i was being. a lot people fail a thousand times at diet and exercise before ever succeeding. I dont think its fair to judge someones effort even if its shortlived
what bugs me about these january gym-goers is that they don't seem to understand gym etiquette, like observing the 30 minute limit on cardio machines or getting off a weight machine in-between sets. yesterday i was stretching on the mat and someone sat in what anyone who had spent any time at the gym would realize was MY area. hello, i am stretching, and you are cramping me.

Awww...you guys are going to make me even more self conscious. My apartment complex shut down our free gym for a few months for remodeling right before Christmas.
Now I have to find a gym to get me through the winter since I don't want to work out in the dark/cold. My first thought when I realized this was "oh no! I'm going to be one of those hated January gym goers!" Little will everyone know I'm working on my resolution from 2 years ago:-)
this is actually one of the main reasons why i dont do new years resolutions for anything really, i usually do a bi monthly resolutions throughout the year.
yes i go from trying to be sympathetic to just plain really burning annoyed. intellectually & socially i understand that we all have to start some where & i always encourage people to exercise.
BUT...going to the gym (or working out anywhere) for most of us is 'ME' time, so we go in the gym having to think about ME for any of us to sustain motivation to go there. at times trying to fit it in our busy schedules is hard enough. believe me i would love to be able to workout at home but its just not an option with our cramped space now.
im planning on going to the gym starting friday nights - sundays & to fit in one workout during the work week. i guess its actually been a good time for me to get sick altho its setting me back a couple of weeks.
awh come on. Where is that encouraging spirit? Consider this time an opportunity to meet new friends who are looking for mentorship. Isn't it easier when were all in this together ![]()
Yeah, maybe its an inconvenience to my workout, but for me its the more the merrier. Have you ever run a race with 20,000 people?

I've just been reminded of yet another reason to not join a gym.
Last year I was very involved with the group fitness classes. The January rush made it impossible for me to enjoy my favorite classes. In fact, I couldn't get into the spinning classes and ended up never going back. I just couldn't psyche myself up for the pain once I had gotten out of the habit of going. This year I am mostly using the free weights and thankfully that area is not very crowded.
Ha, my gym was almost empty today and it's only the 7th! These folks must give up easy.
(I suppose now that I've said that, next time I go I'll have to beg to find the dumbbells I want)
omg just got back from the gym and this thread literally summed up exactly what i was thinking lol!
usually when i go i have the whole separate free weights area to myself (the men seem to avoid it and stay around the bench press), but today they were soo many people hanging around using 1kg weights and hogging the area, i swear doing nothing more time than they actually did something.
went to a class too as the weights were slightly less successful today and that was just as bad. so many new unfit people that the instructor changed the routine to make it so much easier. felt like more of a waste of time than yoga ![]()
i am all supportive of january newbies if they are still there in a few months. then good for them. but not those who hog the gym in jan and feb not even doing things properly and then r moaning in march that exercise "doesn't work for them" lol!
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
