stupid question about calories on labels....
K so is the sugar/carbs/fat already converted into calories
ex.
say a food has:
100 calories
xg sugar
xg fat
x amount carbs
is this food only 100 calories - or are there actually more calories that are converted from sugar and fat....
Yep, the calories listed are the total calories from fat, carbohydrates, protein, and anything else that's in there.
Fat Free Does Not Equal Calorie Free
If you are trying to lose weight, looking at labels to find the lowest fat foods may actually be sabotaging your efforts. Food labels can be quite misleading in an attempt to try to sell more products: and it works! One of the most falsely held beliefs is that when you find a food that is fat free, it is also calorie-free. This leads you to believe you can eat all you want. And that's what the manufacturers want you to think.
That Xiao is everywhere tonight...lol.
Just so you know, protein and carbs are 4 calories each gram and fat is 9 calories per gram. In the US I believe you have a system on your labels that involves net carbs, subtracting out the carbs from fibre because they aren't absorbed, but in Canada, although we list the fibre content separately, we don't deduct the calories from the total. A bit confusing for sure!! Also, Fat and Carbs are often broken down into subcategories like Saturated/Trans fats etc. or sugar/starch/fibre for the carbs...
Xiao, the same goes for sugar free. Read the labels on sugar free chocolate bars and regular. The sugar free actually has more calories! I eat mostly fresh food, so this doesn't affect me much, but we all need to be aware.
Xiao is a spammer I think Claire. She popped up all over the place yesterday posting the same links in different threads...
