I just checked out the nutrition facts on subway's website and there are more carbs + calories in the tortilla wrap than a 6" sub!
Is anyone else surprised?
Will anyone change what they get at subway (or any other wrap/sub place) for that reason??
For me, I would still probably get the wrap... just cause I love wraps!
I used to do the same thing before I was on CC. Then when I decide to go to subway I did wonder whether the tortilla would be less calories. But, nope! So I always get bread. It looks bigger too. xD;
A sub with ham or turkey and veggies on whole wheat / whole grain bread is always better than a wrap at subway.
the healthiest item at subway is the oven roasted chicken on whole wheat--hold the cheese...get lots of veggies on it and the sweet onion sauce, as it has the least fat & calories of all their sauces. for the 6-inch it's: 300 calories, 5 grams of fat, 47 carbs, 22 protein & 4 fibre.
i had one yesterday and it was deelish ! ![]()
- 200 - 6" white Italian or wheat
- 310 - wrap
I usually go for the white bread anyway. It seems to fill me up more. I do order the wraps when I don't fill as hungry though. Didn't realize they were more calories. I probably will stick to my routine though and make allowances for the more calories.
I get the wraps, it may have more calories; but I prefer the taste of the wrap to the bread.

That's what I get as well - except I just get a little vinegar instead of the sweet onion teriyaki. Not my absolute favorite thing for lunch but it isn't a bad sub and convenient since Subway seems to be everywhere.
I to prefer wraps but I make my own sandwhiches. Subway food has way too much soium. Also there wraps contain hydrogenated oils which is trans fat. It may say there are 0 grams of trans fat but that is a lie. The bread on the other hand contains no Hydrogenated oils that is the better choice. The type to get is obviously whole wheat.
that is soooooo stupid!!! thanks for posting!!! i was seriously thinking of trying a wrap someday, but what for, i guess... LOL
i don't even want a wrap now!!! i'll just stick with my full subs with light mayo & cheese :D
I was just there yesterday at the food court in the mall-not many healthy choices in there. I had the subway salad with no cheese and had the worker there give me the oil and vinegar bottles so I could put my own amount on-it was great and super low calorie, but very large-I think they put three slices of meat choped up on it. I was very pleased wit it :-)
*Side note**-did you ever notice the people eating around you that certainly could use the help from this web site, loading up on some of the most fattening and discusting foods-------that used to be me :-)
i am so with you thereee. i thought i was doing the better thing by getting a wrappp but i was totally wrong when i visited the website. so now i usually get a salad instead or a mini fit turkey sub..thye are 190 calories and still fills me up! :)
I don't eat subs or wraps. Try using lettuce as means to wrap - It's DELICIOUS!!!
Yes, I couldn't agree with you more, h2o. Turkey wrapped in lettuce is one of my favorite foods.
This thread is actually pretty funny, because I just went to Subway last night and got one of their wraps for the first time. They had a little nutrition info booklet, and I just got a turkey wrap with provolone (about 300 cals), which was just what I needed to finish off my cals for the day. :)
I typically use lettuce as a wrap also. It's a nice alternative to bread.
Do most tortilla wraps contain hydrogenated oils as well? :\
I usually get a whole wheat turkey wrap from the cafeteria everyday (not subway, but similar) ....
Its a big 12" thick tortilla.... I wonder if it'd be even more cals than Subway's (Subway's tortillas are kinda small in my opinion)
Anyone know the calories in your average 12ish inch wheat wrap? I've been counting it as 300, not sure if that's right. I usually break off half of it and try to stuff all the stuffing in half of the wrap instead. It's just as good, and saves 150 calories! I love wraps though, probably more than a sub roll!
Thanks! No I get them to go at my college, but they don't have any information so I have to guess.

Hydrogenated oils do not equal trans fats.
Hydrogenated oils are fats whose double carbon bonds have been broken (and hydrogen added to these broken bonds) to give a resulting fatty acid that is more stable at room temperature...the whole purpose is to make liquid oils--like canola or vegetable--stay solid at room temperature (like in the case of margarine).
When the double bonds of these fatty acids have been broken, you get a saturated fat--saturated meaning that all of the carbon atoms on the chain have as many hydrogens attatched to them as they can hold, making them as straight as they can be...and easily stackable.
In order to have a trans fat, you have to have an unsaturated double bond in the carbon chain, in the correct orientation--so trans fats can only occur in unsaturated fatty acids, or partially hydrogenated oils. However, most healthy oils that are used have cis configurations to their double bonds already (the opposite orientation of trans) so if you partially hydrogenate them, you'll likely end up with a cis unsaturated double bond rather than a trans one.
So just because something has hydrogenated oils, doesn't mean it necessarily has trans fats.
So if the nutritional values say there are no trans fats, there probably aren't any (or there are close to none as per government guidelines...). As for other tortillas, you'd have to look at the ingredients/nutritional information.
Im starting to wonder if a 6" sub would be a better choice.... but I love the wraps too much!
What type of wrap do you usually like to get? ;) And with what in it?
Does your college let you get the tortilla wrap only or something... how do you split the wrap into half? :P
I usually get the turkey wrap (cause its lower cal).... but I do love the seafood salad wrap, too bad its way higher in cals cause of the mayo :( so I only get it less often...
