Substitue for Ramen Noodles

Quote  |  Reply

Recently I have been on a diet plan that included Ramen noodles for lunch, I mean it has been working and I've been losing weith, recently I have been reading that Ramen noodles are really not good for you because of the amount of fat in them and that the seasoning is horrible for you cuz it contains so much salt.

So im wondering if there is a healthier alternative that I can eat for lunch, it doesn't necessarily have to be a grain As long as its around 300-380 calories its fine

Or is the alternative of not adding the seasoning to it good enough?

Oh and I usually just squeeze in a lime into it b4 eating.

Whole wheat spaghetti stir-fried with some veggies and a bit of soy sauce is pretty yummy.  And reheats really well.

I'm not sure how much of the salt is in the seasoning packet, and how much is in the noodles.  But when I have it occasionally I only use half of the seasoning packet.

How about the frozen lean cusine or smart ones? They're pretty good u just need to watch the sodium content.

Cut the ramen immediately. They are BAD BAD BAD for you. Empty calories and extremely high in sodium. Were talking enough sodium for the entire day!!!

Ramen's my sick food. I've had a sore throat and have been nauseous for a few days, Ramen Oriental flavor is the best.

I managed to fit Ramen into my diet twice this week and lost another pound. Oh well.

Another thing you can do is make them without the broth-- IE, you pour the water in and let them get soft for a minute, then empty the water out.  Then you can just use a dusting of the seasoning and stir it in.  They're really tasty if you can manage a small bit of butter or margarine, but this might go against your calorie needs.  Anyways, that cuts the salt way down, since it barely takes any of the packet to flavor them.

Ahhh ramen noodles. I remember the days when I could down two of those puppies - in a day. =I

Anyways, this is going off the topic slightly, and I know it's been asked on the forums before, but I never actually saw a solid answer. Has anyone ever figured out how many calories/sodium/fat in just the noodles? Sans the seasoning? I'd buy it for convenience, chuck the seasoning, and just use curry or something. Anyone?

Ramen noodles are fried noodles. Therefore its usually the noodles that have all the calories... the soup packets have all the sodium. LOL. none of them are healthy.

seems like 400 calories for the noodles only?

I wouldn't get it out of my diet completely, although I do eat it very sparingly. I just dont like ramen that much haha.

You could get some roasted vegetables, slice of cheese, low fat mayo, some bread and make a sandwich (I LOVE veggie sandwiches!) and eat it with a side of salad with light dressing.Grill some chicken, fry some eggs, etc. There are so many possibilities. I love making new meals! :) You can also make stir fried rice and so on.

You can also use some low sodium broth to make a really easy soup. Just chuck some vegetables (I stuck in some tofu too) boil it and there's a soup. LOL. Or chuck some noodles in there and it'll be sorta similar to ramen. sorta... haha.
