The subway diet...Anybody ever try it?

Quote  |  Reply
I was just eating a veggie sandwich from Subway and started thinking about the whole Jared thing a few years ago. Has anyone ever tried the "Subway diet"?

I have not..however I can't see just eating the same thing day in and day out being ultimately healthy...

rumor has it jared also got surgery and lived miles from the closest subway so who knows.

I use to manage a subway and for your staff meal, you're able to get a foot long sub which I always split into two meals.  Now because I was a manager...somehow I always got another free meal after work too *don't know how that happend...* and so basically I was eating subway like 3 times a day most weeks.

I lost about 30 lbs over an 8 month period.  Mind you I was working as an manager at subway and always on the go...but it does work.

Cut out mayo and cheese and get one of their signature sauces instead.  That's one of the things most ppl don't realize, the 6 for under 7 means just meat, bread and veggies and their signature sauces.

As a general rule, anything called "The (fill in the blank) diet" is a load of BS.

I really do love my sandwiches, but I definitley don't think I could eat Subway in particular everyday. It's kinda bland. That's why I just go with the veggie since it all tastes the same to me.

I never heard that info about Jared. Advertisers are so misleading....too bad I'm in that industry.

If you get the 6g of fat or less, its just basically a lower calorie option to their other sandwhiches...not like it's some magical diet food :P

I'm sure it's no different than making your own sandwhich (which would probably have even less calories).

i would be bored to death by day 2.  and all that bread - even if it's whole grain, it's still filler.

what about "the___calorie restricted__diet" lol

but i understand what your saying, &i agree.

I would be in debt by the first month of trying this..
Go work for subway then?  It's by far the best job I ever held when I was in my highschool/early 20's and would LOVE to quit what i'm doing now to go back!!

Most locations give you a free sub for your shift and i don't know how some ppl can find it boring considering there's HOW many options and choices.  These are the ppl who probably just get ham or turkey EVERY time they go....THAT'S what's boring...not the selection available.

It can be done a lot cheaper and with better for you ingredients if you just make sandwiches on your own.  Just some food for thought ;) I'm all about subway tho. I wish there was one closer to my work for those "i dont have time to pack a lunch" mornings.
I kinda do the subway diet.. hahahhaha just because I walk to get my lunch everyday. Subway is about a 1.5 miles away so there and back is 3. Across the street is Ralphs where I get sandwiches to. And a little closer is a sushi place I go to. So its one of those three everyday for me. I get a turkey on wheat (6in) with provolone and no mayo. Its 365 cals with the apple I eat with it and only like 5.50. Pretty good deal, tasty, and filing.

I don't know what I would do without Subway...

Subs are my number one weakness. Not chocolate or ice cream...not pizza or french fries. SUBS!! I'd say I eat at least 2-3 veggie subs from subway a week. The way I calculated the sub I get (wheat bread, light mayo and 6 slices of cheese for a large sub plus veggies) is about 537 calories. I've been eating these since I started dieting in September on a regular basis and I've managed to lose 26 pounds so far.

So, if you need fast food, Subway is your best bet. Or if you get a bad craving for subs on a daily basis like me, it's a good substitute for say, a Wegmans roast beef sub. Mmm.... Wegmans subs....

I worked at a subway while in college.  The food is fairly nutritious, (except like someone pointed out the sodium can be a bit high) The cold cuts are mostly turkey based.  Stay away from the mayo and high fat dressings.  Also the tuna is prepared with reg mayo.  Get the swiss cheese (if they carry it) Get lots of veggies, and the honey oat or whole wheat bread.

I never ever got sick of it, i had no choice though it was subway for free, or starve.  One of the main reasons why I worked there was for the free food.  It's funny because many people who have worked at food places get sick of it, but to this day, I would not mind eating subway everyday.

Subs and sandwiches are definitely a weakness of mine.  But as far as the "Diet" itself goes, I think if you walked a couple of miles to get your food 3 times a day you would probably lose a little weight even if you eat at Chilli's.  Hey, maybe that's a new idea I could start the Chilli's diet...
I have a serious weakness for subs. Subway is the most low cal, but there are so many other places where I live that taste so much better! But luckily for me, Subway is the closest to my work, so if I don't have time to pack a lunch, that is where I go.
I get the veggie sub to eat at my office sometimes, but I hate the Subway cheeses.  There doesn't seem to be any flavor, and a lot of fat and calories.  I just spread a laughing cow wedge on each side of the sandwich.  It is really good!

My daily lunch is a bit like the Subway thing, but different in some key ways.

I have a sandwich on 1/4 of a big baguette bread (180 cal and very filling)

but rather than the thin slivers of salty, chemical-preserved meats subway uses, I bake up a bunch of chicken breasts at the beginning of the week and thin slice them, then get them from the fridge when I make my sandwiches.  I put about 4 oz. of chicken on each sandwich, so I get a LOT more protein than in any subway sandwich for a lot less money, and with very little fat, then put pickles and mustard and lettuce on it.

That's my lunch, along with a big salad or blanched vegetables most days.  It's very filling and satisfying and nutritionally balanced.

The subway sandwiches are not bad, but the 6 inchers have a bit too much bread and not near enough meat - and again, the chemicals and salt are a concern.

It there was nothing else available I might have a subway sandwich, but the ones I make cost half as much and are much better nutritionally.

I worked at Subway for a year and when it says the 6 grams of fat or less, you need to stick EXACTLY to the measurements... so its usually never 6 grams of fat.  However a veggie sub, or one of the wraps... they're good and pretty good for you.

Though *this is a trick of the trade* be WARY of the wraps because they aren't as popular and subway will leave them there for days.  I can't count how many times I'd check the wraps and found that a dumbass co-worker had let them go moldy.
