Subway sucks butts I hate their food so much.
Funny, my family LOVES it. There's several healthy choices, too, and they are in plain view on the menu. We usually have a Subway night once or twice a month. If you leave off the mayo, oil and vinegar you will be getting rid of extra calories. The veggies aren't bad, including the black olives. The cheese is iffy. If you are close to your calories for the day I would leave it off as none of it is low fat. Pick a healthy bread - honey wheat or such - that will add fiber or make it a salad and you should be okay. How often do you want to eat there??? That's the real question!
I like Subway a lot. I used to eat there once a week, sometimes more. But to be honest, you can make most of the sandwiches yourself and they'll be healthier, more filling, and cheaper.
Was not crazy about Subway for a long time. Sandwiches weren't interesting or "deli-enough" for me. And they were always out of whatever bread I ordered so I'd end up compromising my order. Ate there yesterday. It was tasty and fulfilling. A 12" sub for $5 was a good deal too. Ate half for lunch, the other half for dinner. However when it came time to update my food log it was problematic. I couldn't figure out if my sandwich was really the 280K version that comes up in the food browser cuz it's thin on the description. Does it include bread? if so, which one? What about veg, cheeze, etc. I had turkey on italian/herb, provolone, all the veggies, spicy mustard, small portion of low-fat mayo, a quick once over with oil/vinegar. Hmmmm. all that for just 280K's ?? Doesn't seem possible. It didn't really matter too much since I was under my tot K's for the day but if I'm going to the trouble of logging food it would be nice to know my entries resemble reality. btw, as usual, they were out of the bread I wanted, sourdough, but I would go back as it's a better nutritional choice than say taco bell, Carls, McD's, Costco, KFC -other nearby choices.
I loveeeee Subway. And as far as fast food places go, it's your best choice really. They have salads and stuff there now too :) I could eat there everday for lunch really...I always choose one of the 6 subs under the 6grams of fat or whatever they are.... and as far as calories, all 6 of those are well under 400 ( I don't get much on my subs though) .
But yeah that is my opinoin... Subway= good.
I have to be in the mood for Subway. As for fast-food chains, it is one of my favourites. There are local sandwich shops that are better here but a lot of them are only open for lunch only and the British seem to think I am nuts when I say don't want butter on my sandwich (I have just got used to them looking at me funny). I also don't have the temptation of various yummy cheese at Subway (5 different cheeses at the one around corner, and they put quite a bit in) so I probably eat better there. I go two or three times a month to Subway.
There are some healthy choices there. I like the Veggie Delite and the Turkey and Ham off the low fat menu. Just don't go for regular mayo on them! I would be nice to have healthier sides, I don't know about in the US, but there is only cookies, muffins, donuts, and crisps (chips) here.
I wouldn't eat there too often because as someone else said you can make something cheaper and healthier yourself, but it is fine from time to time and better that a lot of other fast food if you are careful about what you get.
I like subway sandwiches, but I'd rather make my own sandwiches, where I can put in the same ingredients, but pack in more delicious veggies, so I only eat it if I feel like eating something that I can't get on a regular basis, like the sweet onion chicken teriyaki. I like their honey oat bread toasted, too, and their light dressings like honey mustard are good. I just feel it's a waste of money if I make a normal turkey sandwich for $5 when I can make a sandwich at home with the same ingredients for less than a dollar.
I love eating at Subway. I like ALL the condiments, and I never have them at my house to make a sandwich. I used to have it about once or twice per week during the semester, especially when I was busy with assignments and studying. If you get one of the 6 g of fat or less with no cheese or mayo on whole wheat bread, they are pretty healthy. I usually get honey mustard or sweet onion sauce as they are the ones with less calories. Now I don't have it often because I can't afford it, I mean, 5 bucks for a sandwich is pretty expensive.
Better than McD's as long as you leave the mayo light or off completely...also ditch the cheese, most of theirs isn't very good, go for roasted meats instead of the pressed junk, dump half the bread and you're in good shape. I prefer Chipotle as a fast food restaurant.
I love Subway because you can get a big ole sammie and feel full!!! I usually get either the turky or the ham on wheat with no cheese, lettuce, tomato, black olives, pickles, oil & vinegar (no mayo). Mmmmmmmm

OMG! Chipotle is HORRENDOUS in Calories! You know that, don't you????
No, unfortunately that is not correct. 280 is for the sandwich on white or wheat and no cheese, oil, or mayo. The italian herb is the worst bread for you, add another 50 cal and 2.5 fat. Cheese is 50 cal and 4 fat, mayo is 50 cal 5 fat and the oil blend is 45 cal 5 fat per teaspoon. So that brings your sandwich up to 475 cal and 21 grams of fat (950 42 total). Still not horrible, but be aware of all the extra calories and sodium.
Chipotles can be horrendous in calories. I usually get a burrito bowl and ask for a small scoop of rice, a small scoop of black beans, usually get the carnitas and double the mixed vegetables and then fill the rest up with pico de gallo...Also, I usually eat about half and save the other half for another meal or I eat it after an intense workout in which case I need the calories.
and some people can't order without mayo, dressings, cheese, bacon, sauces, etc. but i personally love my sandwiches with just lettuce & tomato, and the toasting of the bread gives great flavor too (IMO). so it's healthy if you put the right stuff on, or atleast make enough room for it in your day's calories.
