Ton's of salt in the meat already. Personal choice. I skip salt all together. It causes water retention and bloating.

Salt does not have any calories and you will not gain "fat" but it should be used in moderation. Most people get more than enough salt in their diet from the foods they eat without adding additional salt.

Really it is all about a balanced diet. Clean eating is the key. Diets do not work and only screw up your metabolism. You may loose weight initially but if you cannot stick to the plan for the rest of your life why bother.

You've posted a few questions about what adds calories (heating up a sandwich and now salt).  If you're not sure about what a healthy diet looks like and you'd like to understand more about calories, nutrition and healthy eating you should have a look at this '8 Tips for Eating Well' link.  The rest of the website has lots of good information as well.

Look up subs nutritonal info, they already have LOADS of salt so I'd definitely advise against it.

In the UK they just had a dispatches: sandwiches unwrapped documentary showing how bad pre-made food is.  Subway was the worst by far, even their lite ones.  93% of their products contain above safe levels of salt.  So adding salt is probably the worst thing you could do....

there was a programme on tv last night (in the UK) all about sandwiches and the salts/fats/cals etc in the brands. subway were the worst for practically everything. pret weren't much better. the salt in a subway meatball 6" was like two thirds of your whole recommended daily intake. so if you get a 12"...

Boots' sandwiches came out best for most of the categories but in the end you are always better off just making your own at home!

I would recommend staying away from adding a lot of salt (sodium) because as its pointed out salt will have an effect on water retention.  Additionally, there is a lot of sodium in the deli meat products that are on the subway sandwich already.  I recommend if you MUST have salt bring some sea salt with you and add it after but SPARINGLY.

if you wanna eat salt. do it.  no calories in salt last time i checked, and water retention is a temporary side effect.  being fat isnt.  you know the risks...drink water to keep flushed.

ejwasson, I couldnt have said it better myself. Salt is not dangerous. You just have the take precautions when you use excess. Really it is nothing differant than cocaine addiction. You know what it does to your heart but you just dont care and no matter what people say you are going to do it anyhow. So just drink more water if your salt intake is high... some of us can eat more sodium than others.

Water retention may only be temporary but prolongued excessive consumption of salt is one of those 'risk factors' (like smoking and being obese) that can put you in the way of hypertension and heart problems as you get older.   Drinking more water might banish the water retention but it doesn't offset the salt.    Take note.....
