Subway... you suck.
Okay, that might be a strong statement... I do love Subway once a week or so, but seriously... today my sodium intake was 7,002 mgs today. Granted, I eat more than most people on here. I'm on a 3,000 calories a day diet, sometimes more. So it's not surprising that I'd have a higher sodium intake... but 7,002 mgs? That's ridiculous.
Why was it so high? Subway.
Every Friday I allow myself to go to Subway instead of bringing in my lunch. Every Friday my sodium intake goes up by what seems like 2,000 mgs. I get turkey on wheat no cheese or oils. Just veggies and mustard, but I get it with double meat so I log it as the Subway Club because it has more meat (the source of the sodium). It's crazy, that's all.
I do a lot of cardio work and consequently sweat a lot of it out. I also drink at least a gallon of water a day... but, my, my... that's a lot of sodium. I just thought it was a bit absurd and figured I would share. =p

Subway is heaven.... pure heaven
I secretly love it too. It's just got such a high sodium content. Scary-ness-ocity... or something to that degree.
Subway is good yes, but Quizno's is much much yummier!!!! (in my opinion).....
My average sodium intake is only 1.2g so i can stretch to a subway sometimes
Oh my gosh, I knowwww. Usually I'm around 2000mg on sodium, but when I go to Subway it's like 4000-4500mg... and then I retain fluids for a day or so. Subway is so good though, I really feel that I need to treat myself on it once a week in order to stay motivated throughout the blander food I have the rest of the week. I have started getting fast food salads though in place of Subway when I want a treat, and the sodium is a lot less even with dressing.
Hrm... that's a really good suggestion, Colbers. It never even crossed my mind to do something like that. I'm going to look into
the nutritional value on some fast food salads tonight and maybe I'll
try that next Friday. =]
Good call.
Good call.
I eat at Subway once or twice a week, but I eat the salad, it has much less sodium than the sandwich and it makes me fuller. One word of caution though...
FORGET THE SOUP!
FORGET THE SOUP!
hmmm, I usually get the oven roasted chicken. I decided I better look it up. It was 1020 for sodium. That's 1/2-1/3 of my daily sodium...
I prefer Blimpie - I like meat on my sandwiches. Oh and whenever I get down to Phoenix I try to find a Cousins. I love Cousins. If you ever go to Tucson check out Eegee's.
Luckily I don't go out for lunch or do these sub shops. But all processed deli meat is very high in sodium.
Someday I hope my sodium intake is under 4000 - yea I know its high I try my darndest but never seem to be able to keep it reasonably low.

Mmmm... Subway ham sandwich... there's just something much nicer about their ham and bread than the ordinary stuff I buy! It's just a shame Subway's so damn expensive!
Subway is good...... I would eat half of the sandwich and save the other half for another day of the week. Try putting half of it in a to-go box/bag before you even start eating the other half so you are not as tempted to eat the other half then and there.
Good luck!
Good luck!
mmm i had a sweet onion chicken teryiaki today.. so yummy
I like Subway. When I looked up the nutrition info, I was surprised at how much sodium is in their subs.
Heh, my sodium intake is always below.
But yes, even the 'healthy' fast food places suck.

Its nothing special.
I dont think its extra good. Their wheat bread isn't even whole wheat. And their roasted beef sub [thumbs down] I also agree its way too salty, but so are most FF restaurants. Solution? Buy plastic containers and store leftovers from during the week in them (slices tomato, lettuce, plain chicken etc.) and buy your own sub once a week. Make and toast yourself. This way everything is more accurate (the cals must be an estimate) and you can buy low-sodium versions. Its not as much of a treat, but then again I treatmyself with a Wendy's Chocollo - 99% Fat free soft serve. :)
I heard of one lady who has her own "subway" in her fridge for lunch every day - thats where I got the idea from. She just preps all the veggies now and then, and each lunch creates exactly what she wants

Yep, if I had the time for that... I would do it... but alas.. I do not..
I only like it now that you can get the sandwiches hot---the cold subway was never very appetizing to me. I can make a cold sandwich at home!
I like the veggie sub. According to the Nutrition Facts there's 520mg sodium. I have them load up the veggies. For me it's very satisfying.
It is very yummy, but then i often sit at home with a salad sarnie :)
I love Suway too! Actually, sandwich shops in general: Penn Station (even though it is soo much worse than most!), Quizno's, Jimmie Johns...all of the,...I had never looked at the sodium in them though- amazing!!! I could not believe it. Just be sure to avoid the add ons- chips, soda, cookies, etc- when you go in! Those add up quick and are no help to you!!!
