Having success on a calorie deficit

Quote  |  Reply

I have to admit, that I was a bit worried what would happen to me when I started on my calorie deficit. However, after doing it for a month, I have had good success with it. I have been getting more calories on my workout days (3000) to make up for what I burn during exercise, and on my non workout days I have been consuming 2700 calories which is about 650 calories under maintenance. I am starting to get a bit leaner and my strength levels continue to increase. My main concern was that I would lose strength. However, that has not been the case. So as a whole, I am glad that I decided to go on a deficit. I would much rather be lean and as strong as possible, then bulky. So for those who are wondering if you can get stronger on a deficit, it is definitely possible.

However, my body is still trying to get used to taking in fewer calories. For a good 6 months, I was getting anywhere from 3200-3800 cals a day. I find myself getting hungry more often, and I have to force myself to only eat 5-6 small meals a day as opposed to 7-8 small meals a day. The worst is late at night. For me, I always get extremely hungry before bed, and I have to try and come up with ways to curb my hunger without taking in a lot of calories.

There is nothing wrong with eating something before you go to bed. Forget about what those Oprah 'drs' are telling you...what matters is what you burn compared to what you consume. I almost always eat something w.in 30 mins before bed....then wake up at 345 AM and [have a strong coffee]-then- drink a shake of vanilla protein, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, milk, ice....then go to work [and work out - I work at a gym] then have a great breakfast..usually something like steak, sliced,  with scrambled eggs, cheddar and salsa on a whole wheat tortilla and a cup of milk. I try and eat 8 times a day. Mostly, bc I'm very active, need the calories. My bf is approx 14 percent, yet, I eat all the time. It's all good.
