SUCCESS!! I did it

Quote  |  Reply

Today I reached my 13 month goal weight.  I wanted to lose all the weight I had gained during the end of high school, college and late twenties by my 30th birthday.  Tomorrow is my Birthday and today at the gym I weighed in at 268 before I worked out.  I literally almost cried. My goal was 270 and that puts me at the same weight I was when I was a sophomore in high school.  As of today I have lost 109 lbs.  I never thought I would make it this far and now that I am here I have made a new goal of 220 by February 10th 2010.

I was actually at 269.5 last friday but on monday I weighed in at 274.  I was pissed all week but i worked out once, drank tons of water and ate some bluberries, other fruits and cranberry juice for the past two days to try and rid my self of some of the water weight.  I still ate 1700 balanced low sodium calories.  It turns out all of those things work because I actually made my weight today.

I have used so many of other CC'ers tips to make this work for me so I would like to share a tip or two of my own.

I believed in not taking everything on at once.  I did not work out at all for the first 9 months of my weight loss.  I figured if I could get the calorie counting thing down I could slowly start working out so I would not over do anything.  I started with a kick ball league, and then played a softball league.  Two sports that have little exercise but they were a great place for me to start.  I then turned to snowboarding and racquetball at least once a week to ramp up my effort.  So now at this point I play racquetball once a week, do yoga once a week and do push ups three times a week.  There is much more that I can do but I feel like I am way ahead of the game because I am only putting a little effort toward working   this point.  Imagine what i can do when i really start to get a work out regimen going!!

I also eat breakfast every single damn day.  I swear by generic bran flakes with skim milk.  What a great start to the day.  I also eat a cup of black beans just about every day.  I eat as much lean protein as I can in a day and try and keep my fat at below 20% and my protein right at 30% every day.  Fiber fiber fiber fiber.  I aim for 40 to 45 grams a day.

I also feel strong about only weighing your self once every month or 6 weeks.  If this really is a life change what is the point to weighing your self all the time?  If I weighed in and only lost 2 lbs for a  6 week period that is still 2lbs and I am working toward my goal.  The last month I have been weighing my self once a week to try and make this goal and it has literally ruined my life.  I effing hate the scale and i strongly suggest being more patient and taking great pride in even little losses over a 6 week period.

Last and most important.  I log every single last calorie.  Even if I eat one M&M I log it.  I eat way too much several times a month just like any one else.  I even drink too much a time or two a month.  I try and pay attention to the over all picture and worry more about the last 7 days, month and last 30 day analysis tool rather than daily statistics.  That way i can zig zag a bit and end the month with the exact numbers I want.

Thank you CC, I wanted something that would be kind of like fantasy football too me and that is exactly what this site has done.  I spend more time doing this than i ever did doing fantasy football and it has consumed my free time just like fantasy football does.
