Quote  |  Reply
I eat about 2-3 Cups of it a day...and with all that fiber lol..lets just say it keeps me regular ....lately after i eat it i have to use the bathroom right away...

Is that going to affect me in any way?

I have been wondering that too. I just recently started to eat Fiber One and freakin love it. It tastes so good just by itself and mixed into my cottage cheese, oatmeal, with vanilla almond breeze. I only eat about 2/3 cup a day though and think I am pushing it.

Personally, I prefer All-Bran.  They are similar, but All-Bran has wheat bran instead of corn bran, and doesn't have aspartame like Fiber One.

I don't think it would be a good idea to eat more than two cups of either cereal per day, because I have read that it is possible to get too much fiber, and if you are eating a balanced diet with plenty of veggies, then one serving of cereal plus the veggies should be more than enough fiber for the day, and leaning too much on cereal could possibly skew your nutrient intake a bit.  In addition to fiber, veggies and fruits have phytonutrients and antioxidants and all kinds of other great things you can't get from cereal.

going right away after you eat is a good thing.  it is saying that your bowels are working well in sync with your stomach... in babies it is called something like a gastro-colonic reflex but for them, it is ... eat for a few minutes, poop, continue eating.

as long as your bowel movements are easy ... no worries.

that's nice you go regularly because usually what happens when you have too much fiber is that your bowels become hard and sometimes too compact that it either becomes difficult to come out of you or is just a.. hard poopy.. unless you match the high intake of fiber with plenty of fluids.

Fiber One kills my stomach.  Makes me completely bloated and uncomfortable - I can't process that amount of fiber in one sitting!  Sucks because I like the one with the clusters!

Digestion does not happen that fast.

Does any one know how much soluable and insoluable fiber is in Fiber 1?

One site will say that soluable fiber is better and more filling for losing weight, and then another place i would read its insoluable fiber is better for losing weight and filling up.  So which is it?

An hour after I eat a 1/2 cup of Fiber one, Im hungry.  Im trying to lose weight and im also on Weight watchers?

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks,

I agree that Fiber One is super good :] Not many people do for some reason.

But anyway, the one thing I just wanted to mention is that studies show that fiber tends to lower estrogen levels in women, meaning that it is possible for someone with an extreme intake of fiber to lose her period.

I eat around 100g of fibre a day without even trying, with no problems. I found having 1 cup of Fibre 1 for breakfast instead of 1/2  keeps me satisfied until lunch, and not many things do that.

Too much consumption of anything is bad for you, the only downside I have heard of from too much fibre is it can dehydrate you and cause you to become "backed up", so if you eat lots if fibre be sure to drink alot of water.

That was a correlational study, and in reality it was due to both high fiber and too low FAT.  Other studies confirm it was actually the FAT, not the fiber that was the problem.

I love the fiber one. I'm recovering from Anorexia and Bulimia right now,  and on a laxitive wean, and fiber one helps soo much.

About "going" right after you eat: I don't think it's from the fiber in the Fiber one, but because it's a very bulky food and the weight puts pressure on your sphincters, thus stimulating a bowel movement. That's my theory, because thats what happens to me when I eat a bulky meal. Again, JUST a theory.

Seriously, as a former laxitive abuser, I'm probably the last person you want to take advice from, haha.

Remember also, variety is the spice of life. Sure, fiber one is good, but what about popcorn, and veggies, and honey nut cheerios, and apples, and whatever.

you 'go' right after you eat for the same reason babies do: eating stimulates the GI system and increases colon muscle contraction.

it's possible to eat too much of anything, really.
