Is there such a thing as too much fiber?

Quote  |  Reply

I know you're supposed to have about 25g of fiber a day... but is it bad that my intake has been averaging around 40-50 grams? My digestive system seems to be able to handle this much fiber-- but will it be affected in the long run?

My fibre intake averages at a good 55-60 percent, though I heard to not go over 100 g or else you could mess up your digestion. Just be sure you're balancing out your fibre with protein and you should be fine.

though, if your body is used to that amount of fibre for a long period of time, you should be ok. But, then again, I don't have a medical degree, but you should be ok :)

You can easily go up to 50-60 grams of fiber with no adverse affects to your system -- particularly if you drink a lot of liquids (and you need to be drinking a lot of liquids).  And more particularly if you are eating healthfully

yeees. proper hydration is absolutely crucial. Take it from someone who landed in the hospital from having fiber literally stuck in her intestines, not having been flushed out with liquids. lol! sorry if that's too much information.. just hydrate properly (:

You poor thing...wow, that had to hurt. Hmmm...now I have to wonder about that pain I've been getting lately. I'd better go drink another liter of water just to be sure. Tongue out
