So I seriously suck at saving my money.

I blow it all. Mostly on going out to eat.

I've tried a savings account, I've tried having my boyfriend hide my money, But I always find it, and spend it on something stupid.

I really need to save!

I want to go on vacation with my boyfriend next winter, get a new car, buy new outfits, do other stuff that would be more useful for my money rather just spending it on dinner.

My boyfriend and I don't get out too much. Now we aren't totally friendless and isolated but we are busy with work and when we finally get to go out we usually have dinner. Most of our friends are away at school, pregnant, addicted to crack, or in jail (im not kidding). So we don't get out to do other stuff, so 80 percent of my income goes to dinner.

Anyone have ideas how I can save money? How to control my spending.

Thanks alot.

Do you like cooking? Cooking at home saves a lot of money. I realize that you're saying that dinners out are a big part of your social life, but if that's your main money-drain, eating in restaurants is what you need to stop doing, right?

Yea we like to cook at home alot too, but we like going out because we Get out of the house you know? I just need to find some kind of money balance so we can go out once in a while and buy groceries that will last longer.

I hear that. I would suggest saving all receipts for your expenditures for a couple of weeks - that may give you an idea of where your money's going, and where you can cut back. I find that little things add up. I stopped going out to lunch with coworkers (yeah, it made me look like a bit of a jerk, but it was healthier as well as cheaper), and I found that I had a bit more money to play with.

My problem is concerts. I go to as many as I can... then I wonder how I'm going to pay my bills. Oh well.

pay yourself 10 % weekly in a saving account
Actually, the ten percent isn't a bad idea. Do you have direct deposit at work? Can you start putting a percentage into an online savings account (where you can't just go to the bank to withdraw the money, and that doesn't have an ATM card, so you can't access it easily)?

i actually dont know if we do or not.

i dont think we do.

but i am going to get a new job because they cut my hours at work and they dont pay me enough.

maybe when i get back from disneyworld next month i will start lookin for a better paying full time job

Open a Christmas Club dealy.  Most banks (at least all of the ones I've been to) offer some form of a Christmas Club that'll deposit a certain amount from your paycheck and won't let you touch that account until a specific month.  Some banks do it Christmas specific, meaning you get a check with your entire savings around October-ish to spend on the holidays, but I know of a few local banks that'll allow you to set up a month when you want your money returned to you.

Another idea?  Loose change.  Grab a bottle, super-glue the lid shut, and stick your loose change in it.  Or even your cash if you want.  Can't say whether or not you'll be tempted to break the bottle in an effort to get your cash, but it's still worth a shot.

My favourite idea was when I was planning to visit a friend out-of-state.  I mailed him, and trusted him quite a bit to do so, a Visa gift card, and every so often I'd mail him the money and had him put it on the gift card.  I figured once I got to his place I'd get my card and have tons of money to blow on the city.  I ended up getting a new job offer and not going, so he mailed me back the card and I blew it all on new clothes for work. xD
ooooo fancy ideas cellulite thank you:)
those are really good ideas. Perhaps the thing that works best will be limiting your access to your money. Make it hard to get at. :)
I have the opposite problem, I save all my money and have a hard time spending especially on bigger purchases. I just like the idea that I always have money available. I saved 10k from my job last year, lived off that from March (when I quit) to July, then went to Europe from July to Oct (which is the reason I took the job and saved all the money), and still had 2k left over when I got back. Of course living at home, and staying with people on my trip certainly helped...but just an example, maybe try to tell yourself the things you want that you're missing out on because you spend it all. Is there something else you can do each evening to go out?
