suckiest day, ever

Quote  |  Reply

So I go to work early, do an amazing job, as usual, and then get called in to my boss' office right before lunch... my dept manager was there too and I just knew right then, it wasn't gonna be good.

Yeah, you guessed it, they are letting me go. Cr@p!!! I'm so upset! Thank goodness I didn't cry right in front of them (got to the warehouse to talk to hubby before that happened- he was lovely about it BTW, said we will be ok, don't panic etc.)

I mean, they were super nice about it and said they'd give me stunning recommendations. They gave me a leave date of the end of June, with severance pay for one month after that, plus any vacation pay I have earned on top of that. So they have really tried to be fair. Also said they will give me time off, no questions asked, to go to interviews etc and would love to have me back in a heartbeat, just as soon as things/ economy pick up again. I know it's not my work...partly coz they said so and also coz they gave me a fabulous review just three weeks ago.

It's just that they have to lose yet another body and we are down to the bare bones now, so even great people have to be lost. So this time I got the short straw (I said that not them).

They seemed genuinely sorry, which I guess made me feel a bit better.

Not a lot tho... bloody hell. I really like the job, the people I work with even the fact that my hubby works at the same place. I feel gutted. God, this totally sucks... now I have to sell myself all round town looking for another job. Is that even possible, finding one, I mean? These days? These times?

Sorry to hear that. I've been in the same boat, which is part of why I haven't been around as much, more time on job listing sites than CC

I am sorry that this happened to you, there are always jobs if you look hard enough and not too fussy in these times as long as it pays the bills.

Best of luck to you.

I hope things turn out for the best. They sometimes do.

A lot of people are worrying at the company I work at because there will be considerable losses.

I resigned a few weeks ago, because I'm moving across the globe.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that the economy picks up soon.

hey??? where did my post go? I was first to post and it was long and it was there!

Hang in there, it will be okay!  Maybe this will give you hope.....In January, I was laid off along with one of my coworkers.  Also on the same day two of my friends were laid off from their respective jobs (different companies).

Within one month,, my two friends, my ex-coworker had all found jobs, and I actually was able to get a new position with my same employer.

It says a lot that they would take you back and you got a great review.  Obviously you have some skiillzzz and are marketable so I'm sure you'll find something.   Good luck and try not to stress over it.

I hit "back" about a zillion times and found it. I have a screen shot showing it as first post at 8:34 this morning. What. The. Fox.

that SUCKS. I was let go - also had fabulous reviews - and the company is out of business not 3 months later.

I found a job within a month.

Use an agency - both of my latest jobs were something I wouldn't have applied to on my own (the first had a misleading job title sounding like sales but absolutely not, and the second wasn't advertising where I was looking).

Then you just have to be super confident in the interview. And honest! I've said things in interviews that may have been questionable but every one of my last 5 interviews wanted me. This was the only job I applied to after I lost the last one. I'm not that special; I just come in with the attitude of "I WILL have this job because I am perfect for it" Then just keep in mind why you're perfect for it, so when they ask you can tell them. :)

Economy is in **** but there are still some jobs out there. Not sure your background, but engineering hasn't been hit hard by this yet. Steer towards environmental (cause that is not going away any time soon!)

AND GOOD LUCK!
