Sugar Craving After Working Out

Quote  |  Reply

I'm sure this has a simple answer though I just don't know what it is. Maybe someone could help me out. I notice that often when I work out in the mornings, sometimes when I haven't eaten anything before hand, I start craving sugar as soon as I'm finished. Like donuts, for instance. I'm usually a chocolate craving person, but after I workout, in the mornings, it's this desire for something very sugary. Just wondering if anyone knew a simple reason for that.

If your body depletes its stored sugars and carb from the prior day, meaning you work out on an empty stomach you body will crave sugars, some people even salivate thinking about foods.  It is great you do cardio on an empty stomach, it can tripple your fat burn and allow you to continue to burn fat for upto 45 minutes after your work out.  I recommend you eat food and fuel your body for weights if you desire to get strong and or build more muscle. More muscle means you will burn more calories and help you to cut fat off of the body. I use a coffee with a fat free ( make sure it has no hydroginated fat or hydroginated anything in it) creamer and it cuts my food craving in seconds without my eating anything harmful to my program.  Sounds like your dedicated, not sure if you are the guy or the girl in the program, but you both look fit. Good luck

Actually right after a workout is the IDEAL time for high-sugary food...It's recovery food. I usually have a plum or something as soon as I am done. I wouldn't go for a donut, but definitely go ahead and take something sugary within 15 minutes post-workout. You'll use it up and it'll help your muscles recover (and it'll satisfy your craving!)

Yeah, I agree with blackrosesred. I've heard from several trainers that the ideal time to eat is after your work-out. You're burning at a higher rate afterward, and it's a good time to have a high protein food for your muscles. I am not sure how true it is, but I do know I'm starving when I get home from the gym! I figure it takes me about 15 to 20 minutes to get home anyway, and then another 5 to get something ready, so I'm waiting a good amount of time afterward. Meh. I think it's up to you. :)
