Sugar free Chocolate Mousse

Quote  |  Reply

Hi.

I love Sugar free Chocolate Mousse from Souplantation, with only 40 calories per 1/2 cup. Anyone know how to reproduce the recipe? I looked around and all the recipes have much higher calorie count.

Thanks

I AM OBSESSSSSEDDDDDDDD with it too!!! anytime they have it i get a quart of it to go. i'm googling to see if i can find the ingredients or something...i will post here if i find anything

I believe each station has a Product Information Binder which lists the ingredients. I keep forgetting to ask to see it. heh

ok so i went today and the guy was so nice, he went to the kitchen and got me the recipe ohhh and i was so excited!

but its a premade mix that souplantation gets straight from their company and beats with water....it had the ingredients of the mix but it's all unpronouncable chemicals....

can't say i didnt try...guess i just gotta keep going to souplantation to get my sugarfree mousse fix

Do you know what company the mix comes from?

Thanks

It shouldn't be that difficult to make your own low-cal chocolate mousse from scratch.  Chocolate mousse is usually made with all whipped cream, all (uncooked) egg whites, or, most commonly, a combination of the two.  Find a recipe that is based on egg whites and uses cocoa powder instead of melted chocolate.  And if you must, you could probably use Splenda or something instead of real sugar.

That sort of thing is always made with lots of stabilizers, thickeners and other artificial ingredients.  The taste is good, but it's a little scary to look too closely at the ingredients.

I adore it too! I just went the other day and had a full cup of it. MMMMMM.

I hope someone can track down the mix, or a similar product. I don't care if it contains mysterious chemicals only found in the depths of hell. If it's low cal and delicious, I want it in my tummy!!

to the question above, unfortunately it did not say the company they got the mix from, just the ingredients of the mix and im pretty positive it's made just for souplantation and not distributed elsewhere.BUT i found sugarfree mousse mix at the store by a company called Sans Sucre, but it has 70 calories in half cup serving which is almost double that of souplantation. BUTTT at netrition.com they have all this great low carb and diet food stuff, and dixie line low carb brand makes some amazing stuff! they have chocolate pudding mix that is 28cals/half cup. also, i totally forgot about wow cow brand frozen yogurt! it's only 38cal/half cup and it comes in like 5 billion flavors and has a very mousse-like texture but creamier, you just gotta go on the internet and find out what local frozen yogurt shops distribute it, or you can buy it online and make it in your ice cream maker but when you buy it you get a lot of mix, and basically are stuck with that one flavor for quite some time. it is delicious though! hope that stuff helps....as far as souplantation mousse goes.. they really are smart making such an amazing mystery mousse that keeps people going to their restaurant!

Thanks healther_ana. Actually I am not a big fan of wow-cow, yes it's low calories but ever flavor I tried had a weird aftertaste and was icy. I really like Golden Spoon frozen yogurt. Not low cal, and actual portions are twice as what is listed on the website, but it tastes sooo good. :)

I tried the lemon mouse at souplantation, sweetomatoes for NorCal people, and was highly dissapointed. I hope they will bring back chocolate mousse goodness soon, or maybe strawbery. I haven't tried that one yet.

So I think I have found their super duper secret souce. Lol. http://www.americanqualityfoods.com/products/ pudding-mousse

Nutritional information is pretty much exact as what SP lists. I ordered some and currently enjoying the Mocha one. Delicious! Pure chemistry so not for the "all natural" crowed. lol.

The bag contains about 235 grams of dry mix and according to the lable is good for 32 servings. What I do is mix 74 grams (10 servings in theory) with 8 oz of Almond Breeze unsweetened Vanilla milk, add another 4-5 oz of water. It was a bit too on a airy side so for second batch I added half a serving of Fage 0%. It made 6 servings of those black cups filled to the top. Their volume is a bit larger then 1/2cup. So around 80 Calories per plastic cup. I haven't tried making it with just water, but I don't think it will fluff up as much.

After I go through 3 bags I bought, roasted almond and chocolate left, going to buy more mousse flavors and try the pudding mixes!

Praise the heavens!!

How much did it cost? It won't give me a price until I register, and I don't want to register if it's ridiculously out of my price range....

It was around 7 bucks per bag, and shiping for 3 bags was 7 bucks. Although I think if order is over 50 bucks shipping is free.

I want the chocolate, cappucino, and vanilla flavors! I'm wondering though... How come Souplantation lists it as 40 cals per half cup, but the site lists it as 60 cals? The dry mix is 40 cals, but it sounds like you need to add dairy to make it correctly, and I'm sure Souplantation uses more than just water, right?

Or do you think they may just use water and sacrifice the fluffiness of the mousse?

Sorry to be so full of questions, but I've waited half a year for this info  :P

Well as health_ana said they use water. In either case calories per half a cup are more then what they list, since with water I doubt it will make the 32 half cup portions.

Although... I have tried it with 8 oz of almond breeze and 6oz of water (14 total), and some tofu and it filled 5 of their black plastic cups to the brim, and two 8oz to go cups. I will try it with just water and see what happens.
