Sugar Free Jello Gellatin?
I was wondering if this would be okay to eat. I recently got my wisdom teeth pulled and I have to eat soft foods. This is what I had today,
Breakfast
Instant OatMeal(YUCK!) Cinnamon and Apple flavored
Lunch
2 Yogurts
Dinner
3 Eggs with some cheese and another yogurt.
This honostly got me full for today. It hurts when I eat though. D; Thats why I need soft foods. I purchased some sugar free powdered Gelatin today and I put it in the fridge. Do you think this will make me gain weight because of the artficial sweetners inside of it? My mother also purchases Chocolate Pudding and Nonsugared Vanilla Pudding. They are about 70-90 calories per cup, but when I looked at the nutrion facts I think one brand had a whopping 18 grams of sugar in just one serving! Then another one had 23 grams of sugar. I don't want that stuff in my body is it okay if I get the sugar free kind even if it is artificually flavored? Or should I stay with with the full sugar?
Also sence I was not such a big fan of the oat meal do you guys have a way to spice it up a bit? Like adding Bananas or something? I was thinking of picking up some Rice Crispys instead because they are very low calorie cereal and only 2 grams of sugar per serving which is a lot better then most :D and it would be something soft I could put in my mouth instead of harder cereals.

I say go with the sugar than artificial stuff. You need the extra calories anyway - judging by the stuff you're eating already, you're not eating enough. Instead of the sugar-ful things you eat right now, you could try:
- Soups (creamy ones would not be a bad choice, and you could blend vegetables and stuff to make them easier on your jaw)
- Canned pumpkin
- Natural sugars from smoothies
- Cottage cheese
- Pb for your oatmeal
- Mashed potatoes
The only thing is is just I don't want my whole diet to have sugar in it. It seem's all I am having is sugar. There are 10 grams of sugar in the yogurt I eat. I can't control the yogurt my mom buys but its the light kind. So thats 30 grams of sugar just in yogurt. Not including the Instant Oat Meal It has 7 or 8 grams of sugar also. So most of my diet is sugar right now. This is why I am concerened about my sugar intake deffitnly because I want to loose weight. I tried adding protein tonight by eating eggs.
So do you think the artificial flavoring will cause me to gain weight? Also thanks for the suggestion but is there some other good type of diet food that is soft and can help me loose some weight? The blending vegetables idea is great but I got v8 cause I know it is hard for me to chew.
First of all, if the yogurt you eat is the light kind, would it also have artificial sweeteners in it? And the point of eating while you're recovering your jaw is to get enough energy to sustain living. I feel that sugar-free things like Jello should really be eaten if you really are craving something or want to eat something, but don't have the calories to spare. But you clearly do not have enough calories in a day, especially if you're eating light yogurt. So I don't see the point of eating artificially sweetened Jello. If you want to cut back on sugar, I'd say cut out the yogurt and have some milk and/or cottage cheese instead.
If you want something really nutritious, I highly recommend the peanut butter and to continue with the eggs/dairy. They will keep you full without the sugar. And v8 is not a bad idea - I'm glad you're continuing to have that.
Oh, and in regards to your puffed cereal question - I think rice crispies is not a bad idea. If you want to get more fiber into your diet, you could consider other puffed cereals - I recommend Kashi GoLean.
Why not try making regular rolled oats cooked in milk with some cinnamon and canned pumpkin or some melted berries or banana? Its very creamy, easy to eat and it would have far less added sugars than the pre-packaged instant kind.
Also - try soaking plain Shredded Wheat squares overnight in milk with a bit of cinnamon. heat up in the morning with some sliced banana and PB. Another soft cereal choice with no added sugar.
For snacks, you could try an avocado smoothie. Blend milk, banana/fruit of choice, 1/4-1/2 an avocado and some spinach and ice. Super creamy and lots of nutrients. Hell, you could just eat the avocado on its own with some cottage cheese (sounds weird but its actually a good combo)

From another post "I am around 5'6 135-140 pounds. I am 16 and a male" Which means you are already a healthy weight. See this chart. If you have a flabby stomach it is more likely that you need to eat a 'cleaner' diet (more fresh wholefoods, fewer processed foods) and do some exercise rather than starve yourself as you have been doing up to now. If you lose weight by simply not eating you lose muscle as well as fat... so you end up like a popped balloon with a lot of loose skin.
Someone your age and size needs about 2700 cals a day to be healthy and to develop. I agree with other people... keep your strength up by making (or buying) yourself some nourishing soups to eat (lentil would be good), mashed potatoes, mashed bananas, ordinary porridge oats, softly steamed fish, scrambled eggs, soft white bread, glasses of milk and other fluids ... There are lots of non-sweet soft/liquid/pureed foods you can eat for a few days until your gums heal.
But once you're recovered from this procedure, make sure you're on those 2700 cals a day or you'll make yourself really sick. Eat 'better food' not 'less food'....
I have two things to say:
1:) Listen to gi jane, you need to eat more.
2:) Try Cheerios if you don't like oatmeal. It's made from oats and has little added sugar, and (I have bad teeth) it's easier to eat than most crunchier cereals.
